coco
I came in from work today to find Lola [ex batt] wasn't in the run which is very unusual for her at this time of day. I opened the house to find her all hunched up inside, seconds later she ran out and stood outside obviously trying to lay. The softie appeared and was gone in seconds, it's amazing how quick the other chickens were to spot it. At least I recognise the signs of a softie now. Laura & CTB
Oh bless her. I hate watching one of my girls trying to lay a softie, they seem to stand around for ages all hunched up looking very miserable. As you say though it's amazing how quick the other chooks come running once one gets laid. I hope Lola feels much better now.

sjp
Sorry I am new to this.... what is a softie????? mrsstewpot x An egg without a shell. Perfect in every way except for the shell. most time you only find the membrane and a pile of sticky bedding not a nice thing for a chicken keeper to watch the first time to say the girl looks unhappy is an understatement I still shudder now thinking about the first one I watched, 7pm one Tuesday night in May to say I was panicking is putting it mildly took best part of 1 hour to lay that I saw with in 10-15 mins. she laid a second then within the same amount of time she was fine. I was shaking like a leaf for another hour
