Pro - Does anyone else's nest boxes get soaked in rain?

As you get older, you tend to forget things a bit - at least that's my excuse. But I was really scratching my head two days ago wondering what I had done with the old enamel dish that I use to give the chickens their mash in the morning. It wasn't in the run, I hadn't put it on the floor inside the back door, or on the shelf inside the back door. I hadn't put it in the dishwasher and hadn't washed it up. I even looked in the dustbin (in case I had a senior moment) and the shed (in case I took it in there when cleaning the chickens out). No sign.

 

So, imagine my surprise when I was cleaning out the chicken run today and replacing the Hemcore to find that ...

 

... The chickens had buried it!

 

Yes, the little dears had covered it completely with Hemcore and soil. At least I'm not going potty!

Its like when you pull the sofa out and find half a dozen dogs tennis balls under it

Or in our case, the cats' toy mice (or sometimes real ex-mice!)!

 

I suspect it wouldn't take the chickens long to bury me!

My little darlings have buried the lynch pin for the eglu . I'm hoping it'll turn up in the compost next year .

It's so good to find I'm not the only one! I really thought I was losing my marbles...I expect the chickens would bury those too.

Yep many a buried bowl here too. Mine once somehow managed to undo the nut on top of their feeder and buried (or ate) that, which cost me a feeder as it was some stupidly obscure size that no other nut in the entire universe would fit. Which I'm sure they knew.

Mine have dug a large hole (they like to ignoer what ever i put in as a dust bath)
