captaincurry
2 poorly hens.. My neighbour has recently got cockrels which consist of 2 marans and a hen what hangs with them. They keep escaping, and hopping in my coop to have their way with one of my hens. My blue orp is now without most of its feathers on its lower back, and was bleeding, i have sprayed it with septiclense violet to stop pecking, dont know what else i can do... But the mystery is my light sussex at the same time has developed a bleeding vent, i have sprayed this also, but the others seem to peck at this... Is there anything i need to look for? as i am so confused! Theres been no eggys for days also. The blue orp is v distressed, the light sussex seems fine. My other 2 are untouched and fine. PS I Hate cockrels!! Tristram
The Dogmother
How awful! You will need to isolate any bleeding hens until the bleeding is under control and spray them with your purple spray. It sounds like your blue orp could do with a poultry saddle, but then those cockerels shouldn't be in there in the first place, so I think a word with your neighbour is in order first. I doubt that the hen with the bleeding vent has indeed been 'raped', it just isn't possible for a cockerel to cause that type of damage, I suspect that she has been pecked. Bathe it and see what the damage is. Veterinary wound powder or the septiclens powder will staunch any bleeding. I think that the neighbour will need to be more responsible about fencing in his birds
Egluntyne
Your neighbour need to get more hens. No wonder they are behaving as they are, with only one female companion of their own. I would up your security.
