craftyhunnypie
Good old hubby has done my chickens for me today - whilst I've done lots of baking. He's just gone to the cube & one of the poo trays was frozen solid in place. The poos are like chicken rock cakes - frozen solid. It's unbelievable & the temperature is still dropping. They are just having, wheat, corn & oats before bedtime. Emma.x
dippy bird
I have just had to chip frozen poo of my decking!! I guess it's better than it being all squidgy!
docsquid
One of the poo trays in the cube was stuck in this morning, and I had to wait until about 1pm before I could clean them out and get it unstuck! The poos were all frozen in the poo trays too, but the Hemcore in the nest box kept the poo above freezing. Bless them, they are just doing normal chicky things. I wanted to get the door closed quickly this evening on the cube, but Blodwyn was having none of it! As soon as she went in, I opened the back door, and she came back out to see if I had any treats! They are safe tucked away now, and I hope they all huddle together and keep warm. I'll go and fetch the water and food bowls in shortly, so they can get warm water in the morning. Poor little things! Egluntyne
Makes it much easier to pick them up and fling them into the hedge.
greenfreek
Same over here too, i just took the roofs off the house to s"Ooops, word censored!"e the poo off. and ended up breaking the poo scooper in half cos it was like a rock. My girls aren't at all impressed with the snow. they'll come out of the run if i open the gate but they go under the trampoline where its dry and thats it. They wouldnt even walk in it for meal worms....!!!!!
sparkysmum
My old lady Boris isn't bothered at all by the snow & ice and carries on doing chicken things. However our youngsters ( 8mths old or thereabouts) won't come out the eglu Am a bit concerned about them, wondering if I could put some heat into their run. Anyone else had woosy hens & what did you do Allisonx
Valkyrie
Like concrete here too - haven't looked in the cube yet - the carpet draped over the back is pretty well solid and refuses to budge! But the outside ones look like clay slapped on the turntable ready to make a pot out of them (and rooted to the spot they are - need it to warm up a bit further before tackling them). Cinnamon
Just done mine - the egg port door was frozen shut & both poo trays were solid in the Cube too. I am ready for a thaw now
Adams Egg
Same here, on side of the garden is frozen solid at -2 and the Eglu and run is encased in ice all day, the chickens don't seem to mind though. They get to range over to the other side of the garden where the two new ones in their ark are basking and sun bathing at +4. The egg laying seems to have dropped right off too
