Sarahsausage
Hello, can anyone post the introducing new hens instructions please, I can't find it. Thank you in advance! How long does it take before you can put them all together or does it vary? I have my two new girls in a separate coop/run at the mo, they've all been out in the garden together and it wasn't as traumatic as I thought but obviously the two established girls have been launching themselves at the two newbies, lots of puffing up of feathers and pecking but no blood drawn. I've been letting them all out together for about an hour each day, it's only been a week so I guess I have to be patient. Will they ever be able to live in the same coop? I hope so as the newbies are only in a small one at the moment, what are others experience?
tom123
Depends on the hens usually. I have had intros when it takes 2-3 days and some that have taken 2 months. Just take it slowly, free-ranging them more and more until there are very few scuffles and then, as they become friends, the new hens will probably take themselves off to bed in the others coop. After that it's pretty simple just letting them live in the same run in peace which will take probably 1-2 weeks. Good Luck Tom P.S. debbier
I got two newbies at the beginning of December, and I've just this last weekend got rid of the partition between them. There's still some pecking going on, but it's not too nasty, so I'm keeping a close eye on them. I would maybe have given them an extra week, to be on the safe side, but we're away over new year and I wanted to be here in the day to monitor the integration. Sarahsausage
Thank you all! Will let you know how it goes. Tom, my friends got a couple of new hens and they were lucky too, only took about 3 days for them all to be intergrated, I'm envious!
