Shiney Chez
My chicken Popcorn has had a right rough week.First she went into moult, then developed a limp. Now she is being bullied and pecked by the other two resulting in drawing blood. We seperated her from the others all day today and only reintroduced her back at bedtime. As soon as she entered the eglu Tikka attacked her again. We removed her again and waited a little while for the others to settle before letting her back in. All is fine so far, but am getting rather concerned that the bullying is getting worse. Am going to get some purple spray tomorrow to try and stop the pecking, but any tips on how to deal with bullying would be greatly appreciated
Patricia W
Isolate the bully ( not the bullied one) and keep the bully separate for a few days. That way she will go down the pecking order. Also think about a bumpa bit. Purple spray any damaged areas on the bullied one so the others don't decide to have a go to as they are attracted to blood. Guest
it's also a good idea to provide them with distractions/entertainment such as hanging greens, seed sticks etc and make their environment more interesting as bored chickens are more likely to peck each other. Shiney Chez
I have isolated the bully and sprayed the bullied with purple spray. Things seem to be ok (fingers crossed). I do put them all back to roost together and remove the bully in the morning, but my worry is that on Monday I am back at work so am unable to keep the bully seperated in a secure area. She has been in the greenhouse today, but has managed to remove a pane of glass?!?!? Houdini has nothing on her! I know bumper bits have been recommended, but where do I get them from apart from online? Just worried that if I order some they won't get here in time! Egluntyne
If you ring the Wernlas Collection, they will send you some for the price of a couple of stamps.
