JM
Hi Bunty was OK this morning when I let them out, but when I went out to check on them before lunch, she was standing in the corner of the garden looking a bit sleepy. She wasn't looking hunched (tail was up) and she took corn out of my hand, but she wasn't looking her normal self. I took her into the shed to have a look at her and a couple of times, she looked like she was going to do a dropping, but looked as if she was straining and a whiny sound came out of her vent! She did produce a really small dropping. While she was standing on the bench in the shed, she wasn't interested in the corn, but she was looking around. I've just been out to check on her and she was in the corner of the garden again, not looking interested - and wasn't interested in the corn at all. Any ideas of how I can help her? Thanks Jill
chelsea
It could possibly be a soft shelled egg on the way, a softie does make them a bit "dazed" for a good 24 hours until the egg is laid. She may also have an egg stuck, if you want you could try holding her over bum over a warm bucket of water (with assistance ) so that the steam rises up and helps the egg if there is one stuck to come out. Placing a towel over her rear end and the top of the bowl will help to stop the steam escaping. It has worked for me in the past.
Christian
......Or try placing her in a box with a warm water bottle wrapped in a towel? Make sure she has enough room to get off the bottle if she wants to. A softie can make them really feel under the weather, so hopefully it will pass soon. If the egg is stuck, there are tips here Good luck with her.
JM
Thanks for the advice - I will try them. Because she had holed up in an awkward corner, I tempted her out with grapes (she liked them!), carried her over to the cube and put her in the nest box - which she promptly decided she wasn't ready for and went to stand by the cube door. When I went down about 30 minutes later, she jumped down from the perch in the run and came over to the door, with the others but she was still quieter than usual. coco
One of my ex batts Lily was all hunched up this afternoon, I've put it down to brewing a softie as she was fine at 3pm when I gave them some grapes. hopefully she will be ok by the morning.
