Plum
After making 3 baby quilts last year I have 5 so far this year . What have I started 3 babies due Jan/early Feb to colleagues, and one in June, then OH neice in July. Heck, have decided to have fun doing them rather than knocking out 'I spy quilts'. I have started this one. http://www.thefatquarters.co.uk/there-aint-"Ooops, word censored!"ody-here-but-us-chickens.ir?cName=patterns-daisy-chain-designs Don't tell ANH Edited November 7, 2010 by Guest

Plum
Haven't done one yet What are you doing for yours?
bigmommasally
I'm doing an Alphabuddies one - keeping it simple as possible This is a picture I took after I cut out all the bits, I've sewn all the borders round the letter squares and am joining up in rows, then just need to add a border, layer it up, quilt and bind before 22nd Jan for when colleague goes on maternity leave. Its very bright - hope she wouldn't have preferred baby pastels.

Plum
Ooh Koojie your avatar has gone all cultured Been enjoying making my chicken quilt. All I need is a pair of scissors, an iron and some bondaweb
Valkyrie
Oh they look lovely. Yes it's me sea legs kicking in - the Cutty Sark - I so love that ship (since I was little).
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
How do you use bondaweb in quilting? I only know sewing and/or paper hexagon quilting. I'm about to try a granny star square with a view to making a padded table runner for pots to go on. Or maybe a wall hanging/curtain, depending on my patience. 5 x runner = curtain. Plum
What's a granny star square? All that curtain to do Bondaweb is web of glue on paper. You trace a shape on it and iron it on to fabric cut it out then iron it onto square. Easy peasy, then I will zigzag or buttonhole around all shapes when I quilt. Hey presto easy applique without any turning.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
So it's not sewing, it's gluing applique? How cheaty! Still haven't got my sewing machine working so will have to do it old-school longhand. This is a granny star: http://www.leisureartslibrary.com/cart/pc/catalog/800405_StarGranny_Main.jpg I'm told in my pattern book. This one is crocheted but that's the general shape. Are there any other names for it?
Plum
Of course I cheat why do things the hard way Stars are known by different names depending on who you ask? That one is Martha Washington according to Alex Anderson. A Sawtooth star may be easier http://delawarequilts.com/BOMs/Sawtooth/index.html or Ohio star http://www.quilt.com/Blocks/OhioStar/OhioStarDirections.html This is my favourite star book I learnt patchwork with http://books.google.com/books?id=ET2oVn2dBL8C&pg=PA5&lpg=PA5&dq=simply+stars,+alex+anderson&source=bl&ots=yIQjxZJmWi&sig=AswzmzDe1UFdWtpQbM_FOojA1Pw&hl=en&ei=JWRLS-3dEMLp-Qb3vpRM&sa=X&oi=book_result&ct=result&resnum=3&ved=0CBYQ6AEwAg#v=onepage&q=&f=false
Plum
Well I made kitchen curtains yesterday, sandwiched chicken quilt and started zigzag or buttonhole around the applique pieces. So much for cheating my chicken legs are starting to come off I should have sewn round them straight away. Anyone got any bostick?
Valkyrie
Oh dear, why am I laughing? I can just imagine your expression! I think you'll have to hunt for some fusible web and say to it "now just you dare drop off". Never mind, deep breath, a few more rude words and have another bash. Plum
Another 1 1/2 tops done but can't quilt any as my machine has fallen apart again My group has just had a couple of days sewing, eating, gossiping together which was great. No teaching or projects this time, it was just doing your own thing. Some amazing work going on and had a good laugh. Did me good with life feeling a bit gloomy this time of year.
