chickencam
Last night on channel 4 with Kevin McCloud, it was a mix of the fascinating and revolting. He presented it really well and it gave an interesting insight into a very different life. As he said all of the people did look bright eyed and happy, but I was very glad to use my clean indoor loo and get into my spacious warm bed with only 1 onther person last night
fluffyfeet
I did - wasn't sure whether to watch it but thought I'd give it a go as I like Kevin McClouds way of presenting, and glad I did - it was a real eye opener. Does make you appreciate what things and did show that if you don't know any different it doesn't bother them. Two things crossed my mind though. KM slept on the floor with 5 or so others - where did the 2 crew go? What happened when Kevin & Co needed the loo? Dawn x
debbier
I watched slumdog millionaire for the first time this week, and found it quite disturbing in parts, and uplifting in others. I couldn't face the KM one quite so soon after that.
chickencam
We wondered what happened to the crew too, and they skipped over the sanitary arrangement for Kevin and Co They are doing a Secret Millionaire from Mumbai too, not sure when though. sadietoo
I found it very interesting to watch. Especially the thing about how high rise destroys societies and as always I loved Kev's presentation....however, I too wondered how he coped..and wondered if in fact he was slipping off to a 5* for all those necessary things!!! It was amazing that we were presented with the first family (sharing 21 to a house) as being abject poverty and by the second programme they actually appeared as middle class!! If anyone is interested in the ongoing effects of the Caste System then I recommend "A Fine Balance'' by Rohinton Mistry....(in fact when I get round to joining the book club that may be my choice!!) My sis in law, her hubby and their daughter lived over in India for about 6 months a coupl eof years ago and told us all about the caste system, and really what India is really like. I, very naively, didn't think it was still going on, so it was a real eye opener. But its very much part of society. I saw his interview on BBC breakfast earlier in the week - possibly the day before it was due to be shown. He only slept on the streets for 2 nights. I say 'only' as he was out and about in the streets for all the rest of the time. It was the rats that got to him. I think if he didn't have them all over his clothes, he probably would have slept there for more nights. A very brave man. I really couldn't do it. Happy-Mama
I missed this , I will have to see if OH can download it from the net. Somebody in the world must have recorded it to their PC . How do you record stuff to your PC? I watched slumdog millionaire for the first time this week, and found it quite disturbing in parts, and uplifting in others. I couldn't face the KM one quite so soon after that. I found it upsetting too, ended up not watching it all, I can't stand cruelty
mostin
How do you record stuff to your PC? OH does it , he is a techno whizz, I just mention a program I want or missed and he finds it from someone somewhere in the world . There is some sort of big file sharing club or something , probably not supposed to do it . It's all beyond me, but then he has to ask me about which setting to use on the washing machine, so i guess we all have our strengths. craftyhunnypie
Trust me - Slumdog Millionaire couldn't get any more true to life. We have witnessed everything seen in that film. That movie brought tears to our eyes. It explained a lot to us, that we doubted & turned a blind eye to when we were there. It's another world it really is.
