Mrs Frugal
Oh no! I've been using the rabbit wood shavings since day one and although the stuff can get everywhere (especially when the wind's blowing) I find it much easier to empty than anything else. I suppose a sheet of newspaper would be every bit as good but we don't have them!
Popcorn
What about shredded paper? Is that safe to use
Mrs Frugal
I think several people on here use it without any problems Gina.
Nicola H
Gina shredded paper is fine and it also breaks down quicker in the compost bin.......................
SarahJo
I use shredded Paper in the nest box .. and the telegraph weekend pages in the droppings tray, that way Ginger and Mrs Snowy can read the gardening and property sections if they want. Lesley
Kate Do you use Hay or Straw? I was under the impression that hay is for eating (by rabbits and horses) and straw is for bedding? We use chopped straw in ours.

SarahJo
Ouch Katie .... hope it all goes ok at the you know who . Joe chipped his front teeth really badly on a large terracotta flowerpot on the patio, about 2 yrs ago (when he was about 2) ... he was really lucky they were only baby teeth, and they both stayed in .. but blood everywhere and the bruising . He still has a really bad scar under his chin too from that one. .

Cate in NZ
Sorry Lesley, replying to your hay/ straw query a couple of days late. I've had a hectic weekend, and haven't been able to visit the forum since friday (or the chicken chat room as my children have dubbed it ). I know straw is generally bedding & hay bedding, but I've read somewhere that straw can be a bit rough for small animals, although I don't know if that's really true. So we buy bales of hay, generally from a local stables. That way Marble can eat it or sleep in it, whatever takes his fancy And because we buy large quantities storage would be a problem if we kept both. We're back to lining the Eglu nesting box with hay, but a bit late. I don't work fridays so the chickens always have a long weekend free ranging, and the rabbit is put out in his run. Consequently over the past 3 days I've been finding 2 perfect s in the rabbit hutch They go into the dark sleeping area, and seem to find this suits them perfectly . They're going to get a shock tomorrow morning when they're confined to their run whilst I'm at work.
Cate in NZ
I know straw is generally bedding & hay bedding Sorry, not reading as I type, I meant straw bedding, & hay for food. But I've just realised that there's something else I need to learn this week. How to edit texts & insert quotes. I bet our very efficient moderator Kate has got instructions posted somewhere in a sticky. I think I'll toddle off now and search for it Thanks Kate
SarahJo
Editing is easy .. you just look at the boo boo you made in the text, after submitting. Then click on the edit icon at the top of your message, and edit as required, before submitting again. Now when it comes to ... insert quotes. .. I will let someone else explain, as I still tend to botch these.
Mrs Frugal
Click for Using Quotes To edit a posting, click on the "Edit" button at the top of the one you want to adjust and then simply correct what you need to and click submit. Easy peasy !! I get a lot of practise ! Oooo, sorry Sarah, I just noticed that you'd done editing already - perhaps I ought to edit myself again ! Cate in NZ
The other day we caught said rabbit eating layers pellets. I've assumed the eggs are from the chickens.... of course the layers pellets could just be stimulating bits our poor rabbit didn't know he'd got

Raven2902
I've learnt when you're incapacitated, you drink tons of beer. My recycling bins full. And I've learnt that I've put on a stone since I came out of hospital. AAArrrrrgh!!!! Jules Give me some more chocolate, now!
Lesley
I had that problem as well - not with the beer but chocolate! I put on 2 stone after injuring my knee (I was already carrying some excess!)Just what my knees needed I've lost one stone and have to visit the Consultant this afternoon and I know what he's going to say. I shall tell him, politely of course, just how difficult it is to exercise with your leg in full plaster or leg splint And - I found the Shopping Channels while I was laid up - couldn't go shopping but still managed to spend money (lots) - Carl was so happy
Raven2902
The chocolate and the cake and the crisps and any other junk that get brought to me. Don't know what I'm gonna do next week, when I'm without my supplier-he goes back to his ship-oh "Ooops, word censored!". Might lose some weight-yeh right. Great food live seems to keep me going for a while and then I come on here. Have been trying to get an avatar onto this page for the best of an hour. Tried everything. So now I'm going to console myself with something i shouldn't be having. Jules
