chooklady
My youngest daugther and I saw this Red Kite less than a mile from our house yesterday morning. Our local birding website has had no reports of a Red Kite in Hertford before, so it was quite exciting and lovely to know that they are spreading thoughout the county. Here it is along with a Great spotted woodpecker I saw yesterday aswell. http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/nicolaknott/IMGP2369.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/nicolaknott/IMGP2367.jpg http://i10.photobucket.com/albums/a107/nicolaknott/GreatspottedWoodpecker.jpg Edited January 19, 2010 by Guest

Seagazer
Lovely photos We had a woodpecker once in our garden man years ago, beautiful birds. There is one in the park, I haven't been able to see it but you can hear it every day I've never seen a Red Kite before, stunning looking bird. Lavenders_Blue
We are very lucky, the Rockingham Forest Red Kite Programme is not far from where we live and we see a lot of red kites around. They are stunning looking birds and so huge!
Lesley
There have been a lot of breeding programmes so there are a lot more of them around now - beautiful birds! We usually see them when travelling down the M40 to London - around High Wycombe.
The Dogmother
There have been a lot of breeding programmes so there are a lot more of them around now - beautiful birds! We usually see them when travelling down the M40 to London - around High Wycombe. That's near Phil's folks - they have loads circling around because of all the dead mice etc in the fields. Beacuse they are so high, the kites can sometimes be flying below you, which is wonderful.

chooklady
My daugther and I went to Christmas Common in Oxfordshire yesterday. We saw about 20 Kites before we got to our destination and by the end of the day we must have seen a hundred easily, here are a couple of photos I took. They are amazing birds, I am always thrilled to see them, can't get enough.
The Dogmother
! We were at Christmas Common just the other week - walking the dog on Watlington Hill. She just loves it there with all the bunnies.

Valkyrie
Great photo's. We have one that comes now and again - it arrived last year and was around a couple of days. It comes every other month or so when the buzzards seem to be elsewhere.

Lavenders_Blue
Wow, beautiful photos. I agree - it doesn't matter how many times you see a kite, they are still stunning.
chooklady
We watched the one with the damaged feathers for quite a while. The other one flew right over our heads and was circling round, you could see it almost watching us. So graceful, they give me goosebumps and I can't stop looking at the photos we took.
