quickcluck
I've found somewhere that has SLW, frizzle and Pekins Now i've decide, do I really NEED them Have I got room and the correct environment. I have 12 girls, 7 hybrids, 3 orps and 2 marans in a WIR 22x9. At the moment 10 are in the cube and the 2 marans in the eglu, although they prefer to roost outside but I insist they go in during this cold weather... Sooooooooo the bantams could go into the eglu which is off the floor with a cube ladder, and we could section it off again for the intro (it's only just come down DH will be peeved) What do you all think? Redwing
How many bantams were you planning on getting?
Patricia W
Some of my bantams struggle with the Cube ladder. Are you planning to integrate them with the LF? Some people have but others have tragic tales. Good luck! Tricia
quickcluck
I was thinking of 3, would they be OK in an eglu??? I would like to integrate them eventually, but they can be separated it need be. I am very cautious my last lot were done over 12 weeks I am my own worst enemy I am sure..... I am open to any info, as if it's not a great idea, I need to know as I can't go back!
ClaireG
I've got 5 in an eglu and they are fine
Christian
I am not so sure about mixing Bantams and LF. I know that some do it very successfully, but bantams can be tiny compared to LF and might get bullied. Even if you introduce them slowly. Could you not get them anyway and keep them in a sectioned off area of the same run?
Falkor
I have had eight bantams in a but with a much extended run. There was still room in the eglu at night too. When i took on little brothers bantams I did so on the basis that they would live seperately from my LF girls. And after five months of being with me they still do live apart. It is only in this last month that I have been happy to let them all mingle when free ranging. OSH my gorgeous but thick jubilee orp has tried to go to bed in the bantams cube on a couple of occasions but i think that is just cos she didn`t realise it wasn`t her cube Slow, slow, slow intros would be my recomendation but you knew that already with the possibility of always having two flocks. Redwing
I have seven in an Eglu so three will be just fine, lots of room to spread out If you were to section a 3 x 9 strip off the run they would be fine in that and there would still be room for the others in the rest of the run Do be prepared to keep it that way however, I do have one bantam that lives with the big girls but she is literally too hot for the other bantams to handle so is better off with the big girlies. I wouldnt put any of my other bantams with the big chooks Play it by ear though, Janty's set up is proof that it can work
tom123
As everyone knows, I have had mixed flocks and have been successful with intros etc. But you have some big girls (orps etc.) and I don't think Pekins being introduced to them would be a good idea. The other way round might work but I don't think they could hold their own. If I was you I would get 3 and keep them seperate
Egluntyne
I'd be inclined to keep them separate too.
