Football Chat continued....

I thought the new stadium and the staying Henry would give you a huge lift, but "Ooops, word censored!"nal have failed in the title race dismally!

I have a mate - deputy editor of 4-4-2 - who always refers to Thierry Henry as "Tiny Tears"

I've never quite worked out why - but it's very funny!!

anyway - look out Mr Wenger with your delicate little French ankles... BigSam's reaching up with his hairy northern hand to grab them!! (2 points made up this weekend!)

Here's a poser...

who is the worst signing your club has made in the last five years??

at Bolton there are many candidates - but the winner (because of all the hype that attended his signing) has to be Mario Jardel..

utterly useless fat tub of lard...

Phil

(there are other candidates - but he was the one who's name people might recognise!)

I can think of some ! not sure if they fit into the 5 year category though :?

Chris Sutton ( I think he scored 1 goal for us  )

Robert Huth (just a giant tank, nothing else - could NOT defend)

Mario Stanic (I used to seriously panic when he came on !)

Veron (what the heck happened to him...few games and he just disappeared!! )

Mario Jardel! He was a quality player in his day! I got his autograph when he played for you at the Villa vs Bolton match, he was a really nice bloke, didn't speak well, but he could make out "hi" and "thankyou" which it replied with "hello" and "ok".

Ok here's 3! They're all equal.

Arguably Villa's worst signing of the last 5 years has to be Eric Djemba-Djemba. He was a waste of space, Sir Alex alled him the ideal replacement for Roy Keane when he signed him. Couldn't control a ball.

Number 2 is Mathieu Berson, we signed him for £1.25 million, and when David O'Leary was asked why he signed him he said it was because he was cheap! It would have been cheaper to not sign him, on £16,000 a week and he only played a handful of games. Couldn't control a ball, no ability, no pace, nothing.

3rd and Finally has to be Bosko Balaban. John Gregory signed him for £5.5million, he played 20minutes in one premiership game and then suffered the rest of his time in the reserves, and he didn't seem to care, very poor player, couldn't be bothererd attitude. To be fair to him, he is now the most established and highest scoring player in the Belgian leagues.

Alpay was close!

I had really high hopes for him - but he was tailor made for the song "who ate all the pies.." and then he went missing...

I never understood why Villa bought him - given that we knew how bad he was!! and now you've loaned him out to Burnley!!

The lovely "Ooops, word censored!"ne does not normally make bad signings but i think even he'd agree that signing Francis Jeffers was a complete nightmare...

It did however, manage to convince all the "Ooops, word censored!"nal fans that they'd rather spend pennies on some foreign unknown then mega bucks on a 'proven' english player... Perhaps he did it on purpose..... :?

"Ooops, word censored!"ody could argue that Wenger is probably one of the canniest signers in the game - taking little known young Frenchmen - and moulding them into the "Ooops, word censored!"nal style..

what makes him so much a better manager than Mourinho is that Mourinho always wants to buy the finished article - he's not willing to put the time in to develop a player...

Phil! You agree with me for once!!! *falls down in shock!:wink:

They're not all french people we sign you know! (just mostly  )

It is true he is way better then Mourinho at signing unknowns and making them into world beaters... Patrick Vieria for instance... If you look at the average age of our squad (and average price) compared to Chelsea squad its a massive difference....

Wenger is a great manager because he has a system - and he buys players - and trains them to play in the system - the "Ooops, word censored!"nal system. The System is more important than the players.

the systems are very different - but Sam Allardyce does just the same - he has a system - he picks up players to play in that system - if they don't like it, then they are shown the door. No other manager has got Anelka to do so much tracking back and general dogsbody tackling than Sam has!

Mourinho thinks he can buy a few star players - and the game then revolves around them rather than the system - the players are more important than the team and you get prima-donnas!

that's why Wenger is a great manager (and Mourinho simply isn't!)

"Ooops, word censored!"nal have Africa sussed. My Uncle works at a school in Kenilworth, and they are twinned with a school in Cote d'Ivoire, they did a charity raising thing, and asked football clubs to donate shirts to the children in the Ivory Coast, most clubs were willing to donate a shirt or two, butr "Ooops, word censored!"nal donated 20! When some staff went off to the school, they came back saying that all the people want to play football for a career, and the only club they want to play for is "Ooops, word censored!"nal.
