Little Clucker
Hey I was wondering if anyone in the bucks/northampton area had space in an inccy they wouldn't mind letting me borrow? Or a broody with no brood? Despite my best efforts and advice from wonderful omleteers my girls are stolidly refusing to even look like they're going broody and I haven't anywhere to hatch at home They're Brahma crosses so heaven knows what they'd look like! Failing that, more tips on how to get those girls wanting babbies (other than strapping them to the eggs) are always appreciated! x
tom123
To be honest, it isn't really possible to make them go broody but you could try leaving some fake eggs or golf balls inside the nest and making the nest darker maybe some strips of material over the door. Also, it is a bit cold for broodies unless they are really hardcore
Little Clucker
Hehe I've been trying all that since I got them; even to the point of heating their house on advice of one of the villagers >_< Mind you the girls just want to eat and lay and hassle the cockerel...hmm maybe I could use one of the rabbits! tom123
How about 'investing' in a silkie or goldtop or 2???
Little Clucker
Hmm, how do you stop at just 2? I'll have a lookie and see if I can find any in the area, although then comes the risk of finding more!
Redwing
I have a spare inccy but its not available at this moment when were you looking to get one for? I have a few bantams so am bound to have broodies at some point too Another option is that my main inccy will be running pretty much non stop this year so you can always pop eggs down for me to pop in there for you and take the chicks home afterwards You cant be far away.. Little Clucker
Anytime really, I'm wanting to raise these babies for eventually dinner (for the boys anyway, ,y mum's already bagsied at least 2! talk about counting your chickens.... ) I'm mainly in MK near the city but spend most of my time between hanslope and bozeat which is like 10 mins from northampton/ wellingborough areas ish? I thinks my ladies have decided to be career girls I'd had 81 eggies between Jan the first and last week (I'm not sure if that's good or not )
