SillyClucker
I'm currently designing a chicken coup that will incorporate my Eglu. The eglu will be on a shelf. There will be a ramp going up to the shelf. Question is what angle would be right for the ramp? Obviously the shallower the ramp the longer it will be. I'm looking for the optimum angle such that our girls don't need cramp ons and ropes in order to get to bed but at the same time doesn't make the enclosure too long. Any ideas and help greatly appreciated. Cheers Chris
Ain't Nobody Here
If you look at the link in my signature you'll see the height of my table and eglu and my homemade ladder. I had it going straight to the floor to begin with and they just couldn't manage that - they'd fly up or teeter at the top for ages before jumping down . I had to put it onto the bench at a much shallower angle and they manage it very well now.
SillyClucker
Thanks for that ANH. My design is very very similar to that. You had a nice wall for one of the sides, mine will have to have 4 walls. I'm going to have a cupboard under the eglu for hemcore and other bits and bobs accessible from outside. I will also be using a water butt which will provide their water as most of the time they drink out of puddles and flower pots anyway. My plan is to keep them in for most of the day and then let them free range for a few hours. Going back to the ramp, the angle is quite shallow on your run. I think I will have to incorporate a half landing to reduce the angle. I expect they will end up jumping anyway
Redwing
Here is mine, the angle of the ramp was dictated by the bit of wood I had to hand bt they cope well with it
SillyClucker
ok redwing that looks about 25-30 degs. Our chooks are so spoilt they'll be expecting an escaltor or should I say egcaltor
