Alis girls
My friend and I are trying to make a few bits to sell at church and the vicars wife has decided rosewater sweets in pink would be nice for Valetines. I have got a few recipes off the internet but if anyone has a good one can you post on here please along with any others which are quick, easy and not too expensive. Does anyone remember a book by Margaret Powell "sweetmaking for children" i had a copy and have lost it. I have ordered one off Amazon but cant find any info on her. She was er old in the 70's so is probably deceased. I loved this book.

Happy chickens!
Still have my Margaret Powell book - it's a bit sticky though! My kids love making the fudge, and I always used to make the peppermint creams for mothers' day. I love the little stories that go with the recipes. Have just dug it out, but can't see any rosewater recipes, do you mean the fondant creams? Can post recipe if you like. Thanks for that happy reminder of many a rainy childhood afternoon. Alis girls
Not sure HC - but if you can post the fondant creams recipe that would be great thanks. Yes I loved the stories too, she sounded a little devil. I found something about her on google - she died in 1984 from cancer and has some buses in the town she lived name after her. Happy chickens!
Plain uncooked fondant: icing sugar (no quantity given), 1 teaspoon glucose, 1 tablespoon boiling water Sieve icing sugar, mix glucose and water, then add icing sugar a little at a time. Keep adding sugar until all water is used up and mixture is dry enough to handle. Knead on board covered in icing sugar until smooth leave for 1 to 3 hours covered in greaseproof paper Plain cooked fondant 400g granulated sugar 1/8 litre water 2 teaspoons glucose Put sugar and water in pan over low heat, stirring until sugar melted Add glucose and quickly bring to boil Boil until when you drop a piece into cold water it forms a soft ball when you rub it between fingers. Allow to cool slightly On marble slab (or chopping board) moisten it then fold over mix several times, then knead with icing sugar covered hands until smooth white and creamy If you want to add flavourings, do while mix is warm. After has stood for 2 to 3 hours you can roll into shapes. I don't think I ever tried these nochucksyet, but let me know how you get on; I am available for tasting sessions!!
