Net-tex anti-pecking spray

Recommended Posts

I got around to using this today (part of my £100 net-tex products win at the national) - it is strong stuff - even just me breathing it in whilst putting it on was strong. My Dorking had very few tail feathers and the cream legbar was missing a few. Whilst my big bully has a bumper bit a couple of the others are having a go at these two at the bottom of the pecking order - I saw the Barnvelder pick a feather off the Dorking yesterday whilst they were out in the garden then run off to eat it.

Let's hope this stuff does the job - you also have to reaply every 3-5 days - the last lot I had was 1-2 times a day.

Ooh yes please let us know how you get on. Two of mine look absolutely oven ready now. I've tried everything to alleviate what I assume is boredom. They now live in what is basically a huge, children's playpark with every single sort of chicken lifestyle enriching item mentioned anywhere online, and still they peck.

We've treated them and their Cube for every mite and louse going and sprayed them bright purple with an equestrian treatment that is supposed to be a failsafe. The only thing I haven't yet tried are this, and bumper bits. They're my last resort.

I'm staying tuned to see how you get on.

The current status is they still stink and it seems to have stopped the Barnvelder pulling out feathers from the Dorking - however (always a 'but'), my biggest bully has worn the end off her bumper bit and as the feathers didn't taste nice she went for the other end and drew blood from my poor Dorkings comb (Dorking still laying despite all of this!)

So the current status is big bully in isolation in Eglu (seems quite happy for 24hrs on her own. The other 4 layers all getting on fine - no feather pulling. This means the 4 table birds are all back in together, so a bit of fighting there, but not too bad (they lived together until 3 weeks ago anyway!

I have used it and accidentaly got some in my mouth (chook shook head whilst I was spraying her  ) and it is NASTY!!!! :vom: no wonder the girls give up pecking!

I had a baldish CLB and an orp doing a naked neck impression but after just a week and two applications the pecking ceased! :)

I think it is well worth the money!!!

Be aware that it is coloured a mucky brown so any chhoks sprayed will be a little marked for a while.

Just the mist whilst spraying got in my mouth and that was bitter enough - the Barnvelder had been eating feathers down whole - one covered in this stuff and she thought again! They say reapply every 3-5 days and it should stop it in 1 week - obviously doesn't stop big bully going for the comb, but she is in isolation and new bumper bit is in the post from wernlas as we speak.

babbington, not depluming mite is it?

does it taste worse than Johnsons anti peck spray, which tastes nasty bitter likew the stuff they used to put on nails to stop you biting them.?

and would it be easy enough to JUST spray on a comb?

It is a lot stronger than the Johnsons stuff - that is what I had used before with little success.

Hmmm - I've not heard of depluming mite - and I've researched endlessly (I can't believe how many ailments they can get?!). I have treated them for redmite which did nothing.

What advice can you give me to find out if it IS depluming mite?

Thank you!

Interesting to hear that it works well Tracy. I suspect that the bully has other issues though. :?

They all contain Bitrex - a manmade solution which is the bitterest thing ever, some just have more than others.

Babbington, if you take some feather samples to your vet, they will confirm whether it is depluming mite. If it is, the Flowers of Sulphur is the way to go (available on t'interweb), you can either mix in water to bath them (tricky in this cold weather) or mix with a cream like Johnsons tea tree cream (pet shops) and apply that. The washing works better.
