wombatally
Hi, a while ago I bought a silkie from the marketplace and inadvertantly introduced scaley leg mite to some of my flock. I treated it and most are now fine having moulted the old scales. However, one of my hybrids has terrible looking legs that seem to have got much worse since the snow, it actually looks like some of the scales have been coming off. I have retreated her with ivermectin but she still looks so sore. She only stands on one foot at a time and us looking really down. Any advice on how to soothe her legs would be much appreciated! Thanks, Alison
Redwing
Denes do a tea tree and lavender cream that you can get from pet shops which would help or udder cream from the farmers merchants would also do the trick water will help but not on its own as that will make things worse, soak the legs in warm water then dry gently and apply the cream, the cream will keep the moisture in, water on its own will be drying
Chook n Boo Mum
If you haven't any of the other creams I'd have thought vaseline or similar would work as a barrier/moisturiser, or a simple moisturiser you may have to hand E45 etc. I treated Blossom's scaly leg with a dunk in surgical spirit & liberal smearing of Vaseline. Good luck, Sha x
Egluntyne
Her legs will continue to look rough and bumpy until her next moult. The should improve after that but will never return completely to their former glory. The Tea Tree and Lavender cream already suggested will soothe them. wombatally
Thanks all - I vaselined them until I get some cream, she really does look miserable though. I'll give it a day or so and see how she is then. Thanks!
