emchook
Are you talking about the white bits that you get in compost ? If they are like my chickens they may well eat anything that catches their eye . Mine are now fighting over ice shards in their water ... Plum
I use growbag compost, chick grit, easibed and diatom and yes they eat it but it's nice and dry for a dustbath Which doesn't really answer your question. It could be vermiculite which I don't know if it's safe for them.
emchook
would a bag of topsoil be better ? I am thinking that the white bits may also be fertilisers as well .. cant believe that would be good for them ???
Egluntyne
I'd go for something basic and without anything that could be fertiliser tbh. A mixture of ordinary compost and play sand does the job nicely.
sjp
I use any cheap potting compost or old compost from my tomato pots or spud pots the drier the better
