Seagazer
YS finally saved up enough money (including birthday and christmas money) from doing odd jobs around the house to buy He/she is called Jeffrey Mavis, well I added on the Mavis bit as we're not too sure if its a boy or girl yet. We've been joking about him being called Jeffrey Mavis all week. YS had to wait until we'd had our holiday in Paris and then first thing this morning we were out to get him. S/he is just over a year old and the man said that when he's a bit bigger it will be easier to check if its a girl or boy. S/he is a Horsefield tortoise. chick wiggle
Aww, s/he is gorgeous. Well done to your ES for saving up Just tell him to keep an eye on him/her when in the garden. we had a tortoise when i was younger, called jack, and if you turned your back for a few minutes he was gone - off like a shot! and no, Im not kidding, they're faster than you think! We often found him in the neighbours gardens
Lewis
I had to save up for Hughie and all his bits - kept the receipts too He's a hermanns + in a heated viv with UV lamp, but the viv is on the floor so he slides the doors open and can climb out and go for walks around the house, normally ends up under a radiator with his head resting on a pipe - he has a little step up to get back in too Is yours in a viv or tortoise table? Thinking of making a tortoise table later this year - there are too many opinions to know which was is best
Seagazer
Thank you everyone, s/he is very cute. In fact we kept checking on them in the shop for months and last week YS saw this one, he looked over at us and came strolling over and appeared to smile YS said he wanted that one when we came back this week. We couldn't see him at first as they had literally just switched the light on and they were all buried under the bedding. YS's face fell when he couldn't see him. Then they brought out the food and low and behold all these tortoises appeared and there he was. YS face lit up. He is very fast and scares the living daylights out of Sophie, she ran off. Cookie obviously is just interested in his bottom area The chaps in the shop said that the thinking now is not to go the viv container way and its in a large cage, just like an indoor guinea pig cage. YS has made a small outdoor pen for Jeffrey Mavis when he can go outside. Its all so new at the moment and a bit worrying, we have books and I know we can ask them about any worries. A bit like when I first got the girls
Jules.
He/she's very cute. I have a spur-thighed tortoise, she lives at my parent's house. We reckon she's over 50 years old now. She sleeps in a box full of straw in their garden shed- she's hibernating at the mo. She has the run of the garden in the warm weather, but lives in the house when it's chilly spring/autumn.
