ClaireG
Found this bargain earlier so have just orderd one. Hopefully it will be here tomorrow http://www.robertdyas.co.uk/P~147417~Prolectrix+1500w+Steam+Mop I've been after one for awhile as i'm fed up with dragging a bucket of water and mop upstairs and hate having a wet mop hanging around. Most others i have been looking at have been at least double the price. Edited February 24, 2010 by Guest
The Dogmother
Ahh, I have been thinking about one of those. We have a Robert Dyas in town, so will go to look at one. I wonder if it will work on varnished Victorian floorboards Thanks for the link Claire
ClaireG
We've got stained wooden floorboards in our bedroom Clare. I'm hoping to use it on them.
Chucky Mama
I have never heard of them but they look interesting. Would it be any good for a slate floor does anyone know? The floor in my 'All Day Cafe' aka the kitchen gets filthy.
ClaireG
Just did a quick google and it looks like it's fine for slate http://www.ehow.com/how_5641217_use-steam-mop-slate-floor.html
Chucky Mama
Thanks Claire, I feel a trip to Dyas coming on over the weekend
The Dogmother
That's interesting, I liked this tip... If your brand of steam mop uses disposable cleaning pads, you might substitute a washable microfiber cloth instead to reduce costs. I shall go into town to investigate at the weekend. My kitchen floor is always getting mucky, and the floorboards could do with 'something more than just a mop'
PurpleTree
That sounds interesting, my kitchen floor is always getting muddy from my wellies. I hate doing it the usual way with a bowl of water and a squeezy mop. It's a big floor too. Hmm Could be tempted. Has it arrived yet Claire? Any good? ClaireG
Nope, it hasn't arrived yet. Will let you all know when i've tested it
ClaireG
I can report that it was very easy to put together. It's fantastically light, much lighter than i expected. The cord is 5m which is just long enough for me. Its easy to use, basically when you push down on the handle steam comes out the bottom. It does produce a lot of steam, i'm quite warm now I've just used it in my kitchen, which is ceramic floor tiles and my bathroom which is vinyl. It worked well on both being slighly better on the tiles. It also left the floor drier than if i'd used a mop and bucket. You get two of the cleaning pads which velcro on and you also get a thing so you can use it on carpet. Havn't tried wood floor yet am also thinking it might be good for doing matresses as the steam will kill dust mites etc. So far i'm really pleased with it and would say get one

Lewis
Mother has one and uses it on the wooden floors and tiles in bathrooms and porch - she really likes it Floor seems to be dry quickly like you said, and you can get some cleaning stuff for steam mops - got some free with it I think, but now just use water
The Dogmother
Lewsi! I am astounded to hear that you're not using it yourself! Do you have extra wipey things for it, or do you use an e-cloth as suggested earlier?
Lewis
I do regularly try to ... mother gets jealous though We have a couple of the cloth things that go on, and I think you can put them in the washing machine to clean them
ClaireG
Yep, it says in my instructions that you can wash them in the machine and tumble dry them
PurpleTree
That was going to be my next question about the cloths. I can see them being seriously dirty after doing my kitchen floor. I'm seriously tempted
PurpleTree
I've just ordered one, I'll tell hubby about it when it arrives. Looking forward to trying it out on my kitchen floor It's not due to arrive until next Wednesday though
