I'm looking at turkeys for sale, and somebody has 3 young stags, but she also calls them poults? I'm a bit confused on this, can anybody shed any light regards their gender!

A Stag is a male - obviously

 

A poult is an immature bird that could be of either sex

 

This doesn't feel helpful as your young males fall into both categories

We buy poults at 4 weeks old.

 

So the ones Martin is being offered are three young males.

An old next door neighbour of mine had a turkey which had quite literally fallen off the back of a lorry! Funny thing. Unfortunately their Springer Spaniel used to enthusiastically help them clear up the mess if you see what i mean

Do they know or want any turkeys

Looking at the mess a few chickens can make to my garden I dread to think what damage a collection of turkeys could make.

Our 4 turkeys were lovely

 

They don't make much noise - just a lovely gentle sound - and they don't make any more mess than a hen.

 

But......... I have to agree with KateA - 3 turkeys would just about finish off what is left of your garden Martin - and do your parents need/want turkeys?

I just wasnt to raise my own food, spoke to my Dad about it. I've declined the offer of the turkeys. I'm going to focus on my hens for the moment!

I saw in the local paper last week Martin, that they are going to have more alottments in your town as they have so many people wanting them.

 

I know you are on the waiting list, so i hope the Council go ahead with the plan.
