It all started quite simple......an Amber Star and a Bluebelle. The problem is, the more websites I look at to find some in stock, I see more cute chicken pictures of other breeds!

 

The list has now grown to Columbine, Sussex, White Star, Amber Star or Bluebelle. Although I would love one of each really I need to stick to the original plan......2 more!

 

I've had an amber star before and know they are lovely, but any comments on the other breeds, to help me decide would be great. I'm hoping to get them next Friday but my brain is in a muddle now

Out of your choices I would opt for the columbine and sussex (I love the buff sussex - so pretty)

If you want different coloured eggs then a coloumbine and white star would be good. Otherwise, i can't really choose between them. They are all lovely birds.

It's Elementary my dear omleteer Speckled Sussex (sooo ) and a columbine not guaranteed or though as mine laid

an other vote for a Columbine even though my Cyclone lays she's concistant in size and quality

a speckled sussex and a buff laced dotte are top of my wish list

Columbine seems popular then! I've heard they are not very friendly though, it this true?

 

I'm tempted to get another 3 hens, but I would be swamped in eggs already get 14 a week.....I only need about 5 for me

well mine (skyline, same bird different breeder name) isn't friendly, shes a lovely bird and no other problems except she wont allow you to pick her up easily. Others on here have different experiences though, each bird is different

mines friendly a enough lets me pick her up. she's the first to come running when the treat tub is out or she thinks there's a chance that it's coming out. she's good natured most of the time she did get ratty when I got the 3 wernlas girls last summer but that didn't last long it got in the way of eating

Maisie, my Columbine, is just as friendly as the others and lays lovely (when she can be bothered ). I reckon she's got the most character of my girls.

A white star would be good for a white egg. My Rose isn't an affectionate girl but is really comical to watch and lays big white eggs

I hope to get some more chickens this month, but not being very up on breeds I've decided to choose girls that all look different and hopefully lay different coloured eggs, as after last years egg drought I want to know who's not pulling their weight
