Egluntyne
Hmm, havent managed to take any pictures, but need some help...one of our chickens toes on its left foot are sort of curled inwards, and sort of plods along on the knuckles 'so to speak' of its feet, what shall i do You need to make a little cardboard shoe for it. Spread the toes into the correct position and then use micropore to hold the little shoe in place. The chick should only need to wear this for a few days. Egluntyne
Good luck with your chickens.. What does pipping mean? sorry to be so ignorant. Have a look at **this guide** by lwescott. 'Pipping' is described under the heading 'Hatching'.
ChrisEllis
have put little shoe on its foot, but now we think that its got a splayedleg as it sticks it leg out to the side and doesn;t walk properly
Egluntyne
Make sure the surface it is walking on isn't slippy, Chris. Use something like a Jcloth, which can be thrown away when soiled. Some advice on spraddle/splayed legged chicks **here**
ChrisEllis
Thanks for your help, this has never happened before, although i do have it in my files so i was prepared, just a bit sad to have to put cardboard and string around its legs etc. What would happen if nothing was done about the splayed legs and curled toes? Lewis
Have you used string around its legs, or a plaster? If you left it they would stay like that, legs would get worse and worst case scenario it would die. It couldn't be able to keep like that so sorting it early is the best thing
ChrisEllis
I cut a bandage down the side so its like very soft string, we also have medication tape, would that or a plaster be better?
Lewis
I'd personally use a plaster as its more rigid than a bandage or micropore, not sure what others would recommend though
