Mel (& Paul)
I tend to use my pulse points on my wrists. That way if I feel the need I can just lick it off - much easier than if it's behind one's ears
The Dogmother
When I was travelling in Africa (when I still used to drink) I used gin and tonic to ward off the mozzies - they can't stand the quinine in tonic.
Mel (& Paul)
I think you'll find that you actually have to drink quite a lot of tonic for it to have an effect. Always worth a try though............. The mossies dont like garlic and spices either - good excuse to eat local food in Africa / India / Nepal

The Dogmother
Started in The Gambia, then drove with some friends down through Guinea, Sierra Leone (a bit hairy as they're always having coups), and the Ivory Coast. Brilliant trip - a real eye opener and very rough too. We had some real escapades, and I caught amoebic dysentry and was rather poorl;y - weighed just 6 stone when I got back and had to go into hospital . Still, I loved it, it was an experience and a half - not sure I'd repeat it now though - I like my creature comforts - sleeping in tent or the back of a truck aren't my style any more
