Guest
We have flirted with several music topics in the past - so now I'm interested! I also know that people's desert island disks change from month to month (or at least mine do!) so.. I'm inviting top ten tracks that you would take to a desert island - these are tracks that have stood the test of time - in other words - you could play them 1000 times over and over - and still want to put it on again!! you don't have to give reasons - but it's more informative (and fun) if you do! I'll kick off (in no particular order..) 1. Protection - EBTG/massive Attack - lyrics fantastic, matched by depth of tune (lots of bass!) 2. Nothing compares 2 u - Sinead O'Conor - she might be as mad as a box of frogs - but nothing compares to the raw passion/emotion/sense of loss that she puts into this song 3. 8-part Crucifixus - Antonio Lotti - as featured on my January CD of the month - simply breathtaking! 4. Papa's got a brand new pigbag - by Pigbag (or Ca Plein Pour Moi - Plastic Bertrand) - cos you'd need a good old bop around the island - even if I am the worlds totally worst dancer! (honest - I am!) 5. Wonderful World - Louis Armstrong - needs no explanation - should be on everyone's list!! 6. Teardrop - Massive attack - cos everyone needs a good cry every now and again - and this has associations with the funeral of a child I did - and it makes me cry.. 7. Always look on the bright side of life - Monty Python - cos everyone needs a good cheering up every now and again - and this fits the bill every time!! 8. Army of Me - Bjork - cos there has to be some Bjork on there - and this one is very loud and I always sing loud with it - and it's such a feisty song!! "and if you complain - once more - you'll meet an army of me!!" 9. smells like teen spirit - Nirvana - cos he puts so much angst into this song you can almost taste it - it is also an awesome song! 10. The Cross - Prince - cos no desert island is complete without the artist formerly known as... lesser known track off "Sign of the Times" - would take the whole album - but if allowed only one track - would take this one - cos it is pensive and massively powerful at the same time - simple unplugged guitar - and Prince going nuts! the list would probably be different if I did it next week - but these have ALL stood the test of time - and I would still want to play them again if I had played them 1000 times over.. anyone else care to join in?? (it is SO hard just picking 10!) Phil
bronze
Elephantstone -Stone Roses Just makes me want to bounce every single time. I love Paul Weller! 3 - Pearl Jam - "Jeremy" - powerful song with an even more powerful video to accompany it. 4 - Simon and Garfunkel - "Bridge over troubled water" - my Grandma's favourite song and the one LSH wants playing at his funeral so I cry when I hear it for both reasons. 5 - The Special AKA - "Gangsters" - takes me back to being a teenager every time I hear it. 6 - Julie London - "Cry Me A River" - no special reason, just a fabulous song. 7 - Mozart - Queen of the Night aria from The Magic Flute" - if ONLY I could sing that! 8 - Marillion - "Script For A Jester's Tear" - another teenage favourite which I've never grown tired of. 9 - Rolling Stones - "Sympathy For The Devil" - cracking track to drive to! 10 - The Jam - "Eton Rifles" - if only for the wonderful bass line! bronze
10. Phil you could have just gone with you already had a Prince track (ok not sung by him but still his) and then you could fit in your Dylan

Guest
Total Eclipse of the Heart - Bonnie TylerDancing Queen - Abba The Wombles Song - The Wombles I'll post the rest tomorrow. Those are all so old though Martin. Have your parents brought you up on them? I like them too though. And Bonnie Tyler has a new single/album out - I saw her on some daytime TV. I have never forgotten drooling over the Osmonds on TotP and my Dad asking me (thinking he was really hip) 'Are they the Wombles?' I think I prefer 'Minuetto Allegretto' by the Wombles.
