Woohoo! As you know Dizzy abandoned the Milefleur eggs - well allis not lost - I have taken a chance & put them under a very broody Button ( cuckoo frizzle). We will see if all was lost or not. I so wanted to use a broody.

However, I have bought 6 Bantam Ancona eggs. I really want a cockerel from these - what's your betting I won't get one when I want one!

So all in all - I have a chance of 9 little chickies soon.

Are bantam Anconas about 19 days too til hatch? The incys stop turning at day 18 whatever, but I mark the days in my diary.

I just adore bantams. Will be ordering my new eglu at weekend or next week.

I wonder if there are any immediate colour differences in the male & female chicks? Eg: white spot on males heads?

We've had our own broody problems here.

 

 

Hey ho, we have two mini welsummer chicks, three pekin chicks (2 salmon pekin & 1 unidentified pekin) with three more pekin eggs due to hatch (two are chirping). There's also a LF welsummer egg due in three days with a very active chick inside.

My Anconas all hatched the same but by 3 weeks the combs were noticeably different

My LF Ancona was in a hurry and hatched on day 18 much to my surprise There I was, happily turning the eggs when I was suddenly confronted by a big hole in the egg She was fast out, fast to grow and a very entertaining girl with lovely white eggs

Awwww - so were there any differences in the chicks upon 'fluffing up'...colour differences or anything?

I'm very excitedabout these Anconas - little stunners!

I only had one Ancona egg, it hatched, luckily was a girl, so I had nothing to compare her with. I can post photos of her as a chick though if you like?

No differences as chicks. Mine all hatched brown and white and then loose the brown feathers and turn to black. At 4 1/2 weeks it's quite obvious which ones are boys and which girls.

The anconas were never allowed to FR at the farm becase they'd just run off

When I do the water I have to open the door about four inches and squeeeezzeeee through to get to the drinker.

Well Button my frizzle pekin is sat tight on 3 millefleur eggs & the Ancona eggs are going in the incys tonight.

I have the possibility of 9 chicks. But even if a few hatch I'll be pleased.
