There is a mark 1 Eglu for sale on ebay quite near me and I am going to need a second coop for my new chickens while they are introduced to my existing flock. However the one on ebay has wooden roosting bars and I can't find plastic roosting bars for a mark 1 on the Omlet site anywhere. Does anyone know what is the size difference between a mark 1 and mark 2 eglu. Should I steer clear?

I can't find a rabbit to chicken conversion kit on the website either and I thought you used to be able to get those?

Thanks

I have a mark 1 Eglu that I use for intros, or as a sick bay or sin bin. It is fine for this, but I wouldn't recommend that you put three hens in ot without extending the run. You can't get plastic roosting bars for it, but Omlet still have the wooden ones available if you give them a ring.

Ebay prices can be a bit daft and you might find that you are just as well buying a new one. :D

Arrrh but looks like Puffin didn`t mean to convert the M1..that will teach me to speed read

If the eglu is only for intros/sick bay then I wouldn`t worry too much about converting a rablu to a chicken version. I have a rablu that I use for intros etc and it works just fine :)

Right so probably avoid a mark 1 then as sooner or later it's not going to be maintainable. But a rabbit one would be ok for intros - then my son could eventually have the rabbit he has longed for! Although better not mention that to my OH!

I had looked at a traditional Ark as an option as it is only for the introductions... but the eglu is so easy to look after and I have witnessed a red mite infestation in a friend's wooden coop and it was horrific!

Thanks for the help.

Just to add, Omlet do not not sell wooden roosting bars for the Mark 1 Eglus. I phoned for a new set a few weeks ago to be told that they do not sell them any more.

Sounds to me like Tony should step in and produce them for us, his woodworking skills are legendary around here. Given how good his WIR's are, a set of roosting bars for a MK1 Eglu shouldn't pose any problems at all 8) .
