3 hatched! Photos Added!! - Advice needed please

Recommended Posts

Just checked now, the lav orp that had pipped earlier has now cracked a little bit more of the shell, how long does it normally take from pipping to hatching??:dance:

Also another question  , at the moment there is only one egg that has pipped, the others are just still wobbling about. What should I do if just the one hatches before the others? I have the brooder and electric hen and everything ready but would the chick like being on it's own or should i leave it in the incubator till the others hatch?? Obviously I know not to take the chick out before it fluffs up, hopefully the others will be out then aswell.

Last night about 10ish the lav orp hatched, in the brooder this morning. Have another lav orp with quite a big hole in it so should be out soon!

No sign of any pipping on the other lav or the 2 gold laced, but they are still moving, does this mean they should be out soon? How long other the 21 days can they go?

Will put the photos on later, have a video too of it hatching!

Just another little update on the eggs, another one of the lav orp's has started to pip

No pipping on the gold laced ones yet though.... Shall get some more pics on tomorrow.

Chick number 1 is a really hyper chick! So funny, when i go in the room, he/she pops their head out from under the electric hen, comes running out and then runs back under!

I wasn't sure what to think about using the electric hen at first as i hadnt used one before but it's great!!

Overnight we had another lav orp hatch. There was still no sign of any pipping on the gold laced orps and no movement at all today (day 23). So we opened up the eggs and looked like the one had died around day 17 and the other around day 19/20! :(

My auntie and step mum who have been feather sexers before came and looked at the chicks and both said 3/3 were cockerals  Pretty gutted but I have somewhere for them to go anyway if they all turn out to be cockerals.

As I wanted a couple of hens to go with my other girlies I was wondering whether if I rang up Wernlas and they had a couple of day old female CLB's (i was thinking them or barnebars or gold legbars cos they are auto-sexing) would they be okay to go in with my chicks if they were around the same age??

Rung Wernlas up today and they dont have any CLB or Barnebar chicks left and some more should be hatching on Friday. By Friday my chicks will be around 6 days old would it be okay to mix them together with the difference of a week between them??

Here's some more pics aswell
