Any Ideas - poorly head chook

Recommended Posts

Rhoda my 20month old RIR has been laying eggs that are just like a soft semi-transparant sack for several months. She didn't seem to have any problem with this other than being a bit quiet for a short time beforehand, but yesterday and today she has been hunched up or laying down for a lot longer and sleeping more. After she had passed it yesterday it took her longer to recover than usual, but was eventually ok and eating again. She was Ok first thing today but is now already looking sorry for herself and laying down.

She has always had free access to grit and ground up eggshells, I cant get Zolcal into her as she wont take bread or even raisins soaked in it. They all have 1 Tbsp of CL oil in porridge and I also tried Limestone flour which had no effect. I am wondering if it could be something else causing the problem. Haven't took her to the Vets yet as around here you need to have diagnosed the illness yourself before going.

Thanks for your comments, she picked up later today, couldn't find another softie, not sure what is wrong as no soft shells just sacs. Didn't want to put the Zolcal in the water as didn't want to upset the balance with the other chooks who are laying normal eggs.

Eating, drinking amd poop are ok, though when she was poorly yesterday, there was a pale yellow dropping/discharge scrambled egg coloured before the softie, then this poop today. which was a bit weird.

since then the poops were normal again.
