batcatz
Hi all, just a warning to be aware of the neighbourhood cats if you let your girls freerange supervised or unsupervised. One pounced on my silkie yesterday. Luckily, she is fine and only lost a small handfull of feathers. It was lucky that I was already near the end of the garden (it's only about 50 or 60ft long) as I couldn't see two of my hens and they were being very quiet. Next thing I heard a loud bok bok panic noise from the silkie, but I couldn't see her anywhere. Then she appeared closely followed a cat that had jumped out of the bushes, then pounced onto my silkie. It happened really quickly and I thought it was a fox at first. If I hadn't been there I am sure this cat would have hurt her badly. My cats are scared of the chickens, so are my immediate neighbours' cats. This was a cat I've seen around, but lives quite a few doors away. So always make sure your hens are in sight.... errr a bit like children I guess. haha
LuckyChickenLover-
I have problems with cats too. Try filling a spray bottle with water and then when you see cats near your chooks you can spray the cats with water. They'll soon get the message and go away
phenna_family
All the cats around where I live including mine are petrified of our chickens, they wont go in the garden anymore. My chickens are like little guard dogs, they even chase the little sparrows too
