reneepren
Hello all...I am a newbie from Arizona. My cube is en route and due at end of May. I am new to raising chickens but have started with 11 chicks now 2 weeks old...one Easter Egger, a light and a dark Americauna, and one each of Rhode Island Red, Buff Orpington, Salmon Favorelle, Welsummer, Speckled Sussex, Silver Cuckoo Marans, Barred Plymouth Rock, and a Silver Laced Wyandotte, all hens, I hope! They are being spoiled rotten in a habitat in my garage. I have been lurking and enjoying your forum for weeks. I do have a small coop I bought on Craig's list and painted to match my garden walls, but the girls are still under heat lamp in garage as gets down in 50's at night. I also have a German Shepherd, Hank, and an English Bull Terrier, Pookie. Hoping I can train them to tolerate the chicks but current coop is fortified just in case! It is into the high 90's during day sometimes already so they may need to evacuate garage habitat before cube arrives. Got the largest extended run for it. They will be under a huge shade tree. May have too many girls for the cube and coop; if so will sell some on Craig's list when they are older. What do you think? They are getting along well and growing fast so far. Can't wait for my cube! Chicks are an endless source of entertainment. Renee

reneepren
Thanks for the welcome...will take some pics with my iPhone camera soon. In the garage light doubt they will come out too well. Yes, in southern Arizona we think 75 is cold, 90 to 100 perfect. When it hits 110 it is too much for me, and at 122 they shut down the airport. I do know folks here with chickens so with lots of water and shade they will survive the heat I hope. What do you think of 11 standards in the cube with the most extended run and attaching it to my existing 4x6 airy coop? I think it will be a bit too many but we will see. They will only get to free range when I am home and out with them. We have coyotes and skunks. There are lots of urban feral cats but once they are grown I think the hens can hold their own with cats? My bull terrier and shepherd are a more serious concern. Space Chick
The 4x6 is that 4 feet by 6 feet or 4 metres by 6 metres
Egluntyne
I have 14 in my cube. Not my choice, but theirs. I gave them an Eglu too, in the walk in run, (9' x 18')but they just decorated it and laid the occasional egg in it.
