lillybettybabs
Hi, I'm looking to extend my flock and have been looking at Cream Legbars. Can anyone give me an insight into them. Thanks
Margaret
Violet my Cream Legbar is my favorite ( but dont tell the others ) Last in the pecking order but loves a cuddle, purrs like a pussy cat, lovely nature, will let the others all fight for food, she just stand back and gets the left overs. And lays beautiful
ajayb
I have one Cream Legbar who lays the most admired eggs! Unlike the previous poster, I'd say she was the least friendly of my hens - easily spooked and probably the only one of my eleven who won't feed from my hand. Like all pure breeds, you won't get her splendid eggs all year round but she has been a very healthy, unproblematic chook and I would definitely recommend keeping some. sjp
Rusty my CLB is the smallest of the bunch is most likly the bottom of the pecking order not that she thinks she is a bit short on brain cells at treat time she jumps up on my leg then on to the treat tub rim then on to my free hand then can't understand why the treats stop.she's my favorite and the other know that she can be a brat at times. she lays a small blue egg.a worthy addition to any flock
chickenlicken72
I have two cream legbars... they are absolutely bonkers. They were a bit flighty to begin with but have settled into the lovely madams they are today (once the eggs started). I call them my ASBO pair. That being said - I would not be without them - they have huge personalities, are the first to jump onto any part of you for a cuddle and were/are a great addition to my flock. Griffin
My Angelina has recently started to lay and hers are beautiful mint green eggs She's a bit of a loner amongst the flock, content to potter around doing her own thing, not part of any gang, she's no trouble at all. She's becomming more friendly, she likes to follow me and to sit near me but isn't keen on cuddles, she's happy just to be nearby. Her weird croaky voice makes me laugh We want more coloured egg layers to please all of Mr Griffins work colleagues who buy our eggs so we'll be hatching more soon to add to our flock. Space Chick
My Cream Legbar Leela is my favourite girl. She was very flighty and nervy until she started laying, but now she is my most affectionate girl, and loves to jump on my lap for a cuddle She lays beautiful blue eggs too I would strongly recommend them as a breed, they have it all, the personality and the egg colour

chicken bark
I should be getting some soon - well I am on a waiting list. With any luck they have got as far as being a fertilised egg! I can't wait.
ISCA
My CL is great. She is the flightiest of the lot, near the bottom of the pecking order certainly, but quite adventurous. She was the first to take to perching at night in the coop and is the fisrt to bed at night. She loves free ranging so she can run around like a hen posessed and she frequently makes attempts to take off She tends to be the one most people take to as she looks quite comical with her little hairdo!! lillybettybabs
Thanks all, I can't decided between the Cream Leg Bar or the COLUMBINE, Basically id like some blue eggs but our garden backs onto and open field which i know foxes walk across, We have a Cube with run then electric netting around the garden so the chickens can free range in saftey for most of the time (we put them back into the cube run if we go out) would these guys be happy in that or will they go expolring? Redwing
They'll be fine, just clip their wings to be on the safe side CLB are a pure breed. A good one will lay blue eggs and one with ever so slightly impure breeding will lay green Columbines are a hybrid so will lay more eggs per year but for less years, they have an 80% chance of laying a blue or green egg and a 20% chance of laying a cream coloured eggs. No seller should ever guarantee blue eggs when selling Columbines

WitchHazel
I saw an advert for at least one cream legbar pullet on Practical Poultry recently the seller was in Northamptonshire which isn't too far from you? This is a link to the Liverstock for sale section of their board I think the post was a "lots for sale" post. http://www.practicalpoultry.co.uk/cgi-bin/yabb2/YaBB.pl?board=salenew Not a personal recommendation as I don't know the seller.
