louise62
My eglu classic is waiting to be lived in so this evening hubby and I went to see a local breeder. We quite fancy the Sussex Star hybrid and also a couple of bantams (lemon pekin). Would that work do you think?
Egluntyne
Some have had success with it and others have found it problematic. It depends on their temperaments. If you put some evergreen branches in the run for hiding in, it might help.
keyhole kate
I have been gradually freeranging a silkie, pilkie, pekin with my big girls since October 09 with the intention of inergrating them together there is still a little chasing and the odd peck but nothing serious in fact it is only this week that I felt it safe to put them all in together at night as Egluntyne says a lot has to do with the temperaments of your girls. I was always prepared for the eventuality of having separate flocks but decided to try it very slowly a little at a time and for me it has worked, but may not for someone else
sparkysmum
Hi I have pekins and big girls. They live happily together by day but return to their respective houses at night. They have shown no interest in sleep overs but I'm hoping that by winter they might house share. Axx
louise62
Thank you all for your replies it has been useful. I think now we will go for two hybrids...sussex star and colombian blacktail and leave the bantams for another day. They are delightful, but it sounds like mixing them together might be too stressful for all concerned.
The Dogmother
A wise decision; I've heard of more occasions of it not working, than I've heard of happy outcomes.
Mollie333
When cheryl was here, my 9 week old silkie used to cuddle up to her.. Size doesnt matter.. its all about temperment. Cheryl treated Pat as her chick..cuddled her and kept her warm and welcome. Ahh i bet she misses Cheryl
