patsylabrador
The Museum of London is reopening it's lower galleries soon. I've been waiting for a couple of years for this day. I love to go there and walk my way through the history of London from prehistoric times to modern day. As you move from one gallery to the next it's like going through a time portal, and I was unhappy having to stop at the Elizabethan era. I'm sure this will sound extremely geeky but it's such a lovely museum. There is a large window in the Roman gallery which looks out onto a portion of original Roman wall. I highly recommend it. museum
bluekarin
That looks great. I'd not heard of this museum before. Prices look much more reasonable for the kids food too, and not the £4.00 for just a sandwich as is at the Natural History Museum
Sheilaz
Thanks for posting, I share your excitement! Looking forward to going sometime during the summer.
Griffin
I'd never heard of that museum before. My kids love places like that so I think we'll go in the summer
Seagazer
I'd never heard of it before and have done Science and Natural History museums to death (can't persuade the boys to do the V & A with me ). I've done Docklands and Imperial War Museums too. Its always good to find new ones, thank you.
Willow
Museum of London is great. I also love the way they've preserved some of the old walls there and by the Tower. I think it works well as part of a living constantly changing city.
Lewis
Might be on the cards to go over summer
patsylabrador
For those of you thinking of visiting - I've always used Barbican tube station. Don't exit at street level but go up one flight of stairs and you will exit onto a walkway going over the street. This takes you into the Barbican, the museum is well sign posted, it's a bit of a maze but safer and more fun than street level especially if you have children with you. Griffin
Thanks, that's useful information. With four daughters it feels like I'm herding sheep sometimes and busy places are always a worry.
laurmurf
I'm lucky enough to have worked there back when I was a Museums Assistant - always loved the place and go back whenever I'm in London. I am really excited about the new galleries too! Not many people know that the Museum houses a special archaeological unit that covers the City of London: whenever building work is done in the City (which is constantly) they'e out there doing amazing work and finding amazing things. Well done MOLAS!
