guildfordchick
Have trolled the posts looking for something similar to this, but can't find anything, so apologies if something like this has already been answered and I just didn't find it... Ellie has had a runny nose/sneezing for about a month now but no wheezing, is perky and happy etc. We also noticed some diarrhea. Investigating further, we think maybe she's eating less of the pellets than the other girls and is only interested in greens. In the last couple of days we've had a few soft/no shelled eggs. So now we're really starting to worry. Is this all connected somehow? Despite these symptoms, she seems perfectly happy, running over for treats, making contented noises, etc. Should we worry or take her to the vet? Have just got some citricidal and poultry spice, so will try adding those but not sure that the spice will have any effect as she doesn't seem keen on the pellets. Any advice very welcome. Christian
The diarrhoea could be linked to too many greens. As she isn't eating the pellets, she isn't getting the vitamins and minerals that she maybe needs for strong shells which is resulting in shellless eggs. I would stop all treats and only feed pellets. She won't starve herself and will eat when hungry. Also worth worming her as runny droppings are also a sign of worms. Egluntyne
I agree. Ridiculous as it sounds, the sneezing could be an allergy, maybe to the bedding. However, as it has been going on for a long time, it might be worth having a word with a vet.
guildfordchick
Thanks for the replies... we do use Verm-X in the food once a month, but are you suggesting an actual wormer rather than a preventative? We'll stop the treats for a while too, see how it goes. Thanks!
Space Chick
I would use Flubenvet, not Verm X. VermX is more of a preventative, whereas Flubenvet will kill any worm load. I would only use Flubenvet personally. As for the sneezing, I have a couple of hens that get hayfever. As long as there is no wheezing then they should be fine. I add a bit of citracidal to the water for my girls. One girl I have, Donna, has sneezed regularly for over a year, she is mildly allergic to all horse beddings, but she is happy

guildfordchick
Thanks! We do already have a great vet up the road who rescued one of our hens after a nasty fox attack. But (fingers crossed) she does seem to be a bit better. Whether it's the citricidal, verm-x, poultry spice, or change of bedding I'm not sure... perhaps should have gone about this in a more scientific way?? Will keep an eye and report any changes. Thanks for all the replies!
