Hi all,

 

Just went outside to re-fill the Chickens water and Add some Ice Cube's to it.

 

i touched the top of the Eglu when opening the Egg port and the top of the Eglu sort of moulded to the shape of my hand (looks like a big dent,My hand is still stinging after touching it)

 

Has My Eglu Started to Melt? I've tried to get a picture but i'm having problems with my camera in this heat.

Pictures,I only managed to get 2 before my Camera crashed

 

The Shadows on both the Pictures are mine.

 

You can just make out the dent/melted plastic on this picture (Where all the light is)

 

and the dent/melted plastic from the side where the egg port is

I'm not sure what the temps are out the back but the front garden (Cooler side) is at least 34oc

if it were me, I'd try and get some better photos and then e-mail omlet and explain what happened.

When it cools it may well pop back out

 

Does the dent go through to the inside?

I have just been out there to cool the outside down with a couple of buckets full of cold water(It was really warm on the inside and one of the girls was laying an egg) and the dent had gone? There's just a tiny flat piece where it hasn't re-shaped it's self all the way.(My mum said she heard a big Clunk noise,could that of been the Eglu re-shaping it's self?)

 

Should i still go and feel the inside once Lady Lay has finished laying?

I almost burnt my hand on the eglu today when checking the egg port for eggs. You could have fried a couple on that roof. My Pepper pot still went in to lay. Must have been like a bread oven inside. Almost had an oven ready chicken to go with the fried eggs.

I have two broodies sitting in their and nurseries...I have been putting a sun umbrella over the eglus to try & keep the temp down.........fingers crossed for a set of fluffy babies tomorrow

Golly I can't say that I have ever had that problem and I often have my eglus in full sunlight.

 

I'd email piccies and a report to Omlet and see what they say.

Last summer on the day it reached 36C in our garden, OH decided to sit on the eglu to watch the hens Needless to say, the dent was huge and I was raging! As it cooled down, we heard a 'thump' and the eglu was back in perfect shape.
