Not going to Bed

Recommended Posts

Hi, For the past few nights my chooks haven't been going to bed as normal, but staying out in their run on their perches. Do you think it's because of the warm weather?

I have to go out and physically pick them up and put them to bed so I can shut them away.

Anyone else found this happening?

I put an old plastic greenhouse into my chooks (open) run in the very cold weather so they would have somewhere to shelter from the snow and rain and they loved it. So much so that two decided to roost on the top 'perch' one night and when I went out with a torch to shut them in the coop I noticed there were two missing! :o I gently lifted them down and popped them into their coop and they never did it again. I think they had got comfortable and warm and didnt want to move

I have 4 girls sleeping on perches in the WIR at the moment, the other 11 are sleeping in the cube (remind me again why I bought the Eglu aswell :wall: ).

However, if ALL your girls are sleeping out, I would be concerned as they could be avoiding the Eglu due to Red Mite as it is starting the get warmer red mite will be out in force. I would give it a good scrub down with poultry shield to be on the safe side and sprinkle some red mite powder.
