A morning question

Recommended Posts

Sorry if this has been asked before...I'm sure it has, but as my new girls are happily (I hope) in the land of nod right now, what time should I let them out in the morning? Will they wake at dawn or will it be ok to leave them until a bit later in the morning?

Hiya. Our chooks had been left to their own devices ... but because of the bright mornings they've been waking up and bokking really loudly at 5am and earlier, so they are now locked away at night and not let out 'til about 7.30 ish :)

I usually let mine out anytime between 6 & 7am I vary it so they don't get used to the same time each day. Luckly they are very quiet girls and I have only heard them shouting once to get out. If you have just got your girls I expect you will be up very early with excitment anyway :D

Thanks for your replies :) Of course I woke at 5.30 and lay there thinking, 'can I hear them?' I was wide awake, so went out and opened their door, made myself a cuppa and went back to bed. The girls stayed put and were obviously thinking, 'Is she mad? We're not getting up yet.' So tomorrow I will leave them until I get up at my normal time

Can they tell the time then? Mine don't lay as many eggs at the weekend. I think they think "well they've got time off so can we" Blooming cheek I need more eggs at the weekend for baking etc. :shameonu: I suspect they have a clock on the wall of Eglu along with a telly and drinks cabinet so they can watch "chicken run" and " bantums got talent" etc
