Hello folks,

Just thought I'd introduce myself...first time on here, etc. :)

Hoping to remind myself all about ducks in readiness for next Spring (how organised is that?? ) We had a small gang of them a good number of years ago but only briefly, as they were constantly threatened by Mr. Fox so we re-homed them. We have since realised that it was because their area was much too far away from the house.

We plan to have a few duckies here next year, and have a large area (roughly 140 square metres) which used to be a huge barn (currently a walled veg plot) which we are busy preparing for them. It should be fox-proof, being made of 7ft high stone walls on rock-hard stony ground (not the bit for the ducks...they will be living it up on grassland, pea gravel and ex-veg plots!) It's also very close to the house, so hopefully that will discourage Foxy a wee bit.

Would desperately LOVE an eglu....might be able to save our pennies by then!

Looking forward to meeting more folks who love ducks as much as I do! (duck)

Welcome to the forum :D

Sounds like a great area for them! Any photos? :P

I've got an eglu Go for the ducks - much easier to clean out 'cos they're messier than chickens (you probably know  )- it only has the one big tray you can just empty it and hose it out.

Welcome to the forum :D - nice to see that you're preparing well in advance..........

The only worry I would have is that a fox may scale a wall even if it is 7' tall..........I'll wait for your photos and see how it looks........ Ours are in a run with chicken netting nearly 6' tall - it is wobbly and so foxes don't try to climb it, we have a single strand electric wire near the ground and that also keeps them away from the netting and stops them digging to go underneath.
