Alternative dawn chorus

Recommended Posts

I didn't sleep well because it was so humid and so heard the dawn chorus in all it's glory at about 3.30am. It was beautiful apart from one bird that seemed to be practicing a wolf whistle. I became aware of another sound, it was chanting, singing, kind of religious music. I thought that it was probably something to do with Summer Soltice but I'm sure that happens on or around 21st. It wasn't unpleasant, I actually quite liked it but it was strange.

Patsylabrador, did you find out what the chanting was?

Ooh yes, the animal dawn chorus in the countryside! That takes me back to staying at my grandparents in North Yorkshire, lovely :D

Opposite end of the day but I remember working in Birmingham City Centre in a fairly prominently placed building with a canteen on the top floor. The sight of a massive flock of starlings swooping around the city at dusk, literally blocking the sky as they went over, and flying up and over our building was brilliant 8)

I still have no idea what it was. It might have been something Pagan, that's the only thing I can think of. There is a lady who lives nearby who wears lots of symbolic jewellery but I don't think it was her, unless she's doing something new. She's very nice though and I don't think she would carelessly disturb her neighbours.

None of my family heard it so maybe I've just been watching too much X-files.

The wolf whistling bird was back this morning, I guess it's a starling.

We've got a couple of wolf-whistling starlings. We also have a "trimphone" song thrush - now that is interesting because trimphones disappeared a long time ago, so it must be learning from its parents.

Normally our dawn chorus consists of a lot of little bird song, completely overshadowed by Bokbokbokbok BwakAAARK! :)
