patsylabrador
I didn't sleep well because it was so humid and so heard the dawn chorus in all it's glory at about 3.30am. It was beautiful apart from one bird that seemed to be practicing a wolf whistle. I became aware of another sound, it was chanting, singing, kind of religious music. I thought that it was probably something to do with Summer Soltice but I'm sure that happens on or around 21st. It wasn't unpleasant, I actually quite liked it but it was strange. Chucky Mama
It was probably better that the 3 canada geese that come over our house at 4.30am making a right old din
Egluntyne
I can beat that. Considerate neighbour up the road decided to let fireworks off at 2am.
Charlottechicken
We have crows, Canada geese and too many seagulls round here (couldn't get much further from the sea ). We still get the usual dawn chorus too. I quite like the crows as they litter pick from the takeaways in the mornings
Ain't Nobody Here
I wish I did have a dawn chorus - might mask the racket my girls made at 5.30am (yesterday) or 6.30am (this morning) .
Lesley
We have 5 of our own cockerels and they start at 3.30! - we hardly notice them now though. We have the seagulls as well Claire! - they live around Stratford permanently now. Edited June 7, 2010 by Guest
WarrensWorld
We get the usual dawn chorus, plus a mad donkey, several horses lots of lambs a few bullocks, a cuckoo and a pheasant who seem to be engaged in a shouting contest. Ah, the country life....
Charlottechicken
Patsylabrador, did you find out what the chanting was? Ooh yes, the animal dawn chorus in the countryside! That takes me back to staying at my grandparents in North Yorkshire, lovely Opposite end of the day but I remember working in Birmingham City Centre in a fairly prominently placed building with a canteen on the top floor. The sight of a massive flock of starlings swooping around the city at dusk, literally blocking the sky as they went over, and flying up and over our building was brilliant

patsylabrador
I still have no idea what it was. It might have been something Pagan, that's the only thing I can think of. There is a lady who lives nearby who wears lots of symbolic jewellery but I don't think it was her, unless she's doing something new. She's very nice though and I don't think she would carelessly disturb her neighbours. None of my family heard it so maybe I've just been watching too much X-files. The wolf whistling bird was back this morning, I guess it's a starling.

chickencam
The best thing about staying up on election night was hearing the dawn chorus for the first time in years. I had forgotten how loud it can be. The best we usually get is the girls at 6am
docsquid
We've got a couple of wolf-whistling starlings. We also have a "trimphone" song thrush - now that is interesting because trimphones disappeared a long time ago, so it must be learning from its parents. Normally our dawn chorus consists of a lot of little bird song, completely overshadowed by Bokbokbokbok BwakAAARK!
Cinnamon
We have one that does a great impression of our smoke alarm
