I took a few evening shots of the chooks and thought I'd share as I do enjoy seeing all the photos on this forum.

Lavendars_Blue: no they don't keep still at all!. It took many, many attempts to get a decent shot! Sneaky, sneaky does it! Though once the flash goes off they become mesmorised by it, so a career on the poultry cat walk may be in store for some of them

I see Barbara and Meep Meep have some competition for their affections :D I of course have no favourites but do have a soft spot currently for Marjorie who is the baby and still finding her way in the flock, although she is wily enough to make sure she gets what she wants

Glad you like the pics.

Lovely photos-what photogenic girlies :D

I've just had a wonderful couple of hours :) I've had my large WIR for about 4 months and the chooks haven't been out for safety reasons ( I do make sure they are extremely well cared for when they are confined  ) BUT!!! today's weather here was gorgeous and we were all on the patio.

i.e. me and DH ,retired and DD, post exams. SO I let the girlies out . I took my chair up by the run with my glass of wine and watched!. I was entranced. They were so lovely foraging in the hedgerows and generally having a whale of a time. They did trash my bark path but hey :?

They did not stray far from each other or me and the cats just watched them. It was a super 2 hours and I loved every minute :P Sorry no pictures to show but hoping for more lovely weather to repeat the experience 8)

Hello from Arizona....your ladies are lovely. Is Meep Meep the Marans? I have one also, about 7 to 8 weeks old and was concerned she might be he due to the comb and wattle development. But seeing Meep Meep gives me hope. Meep Meep is a hen? How can you be sure? Thanks.

Hello Renee over there in Arizona! It is great to see some international members on here :D

Meep Meep is a Cream Legbar, a pure breed that has some Aracuana blood in there from when they were first bred in the 1930s here in England. There is some info about them in the Omlet breeds section:

http://www.omlet.co.uk/breeds/breeds.php?breed_type=Chickens&breed=Cream+Legbar

The Cream Legbar is an autosexing breed. It is possible to identify males from females straight away at hatching as they look different from each other. So Meep Meep is most definately a female.

My Marans is Mariette. She is a Cuckoo Marans.

Hope that helps :D
