SallyD
Hi. I've got a broody frizzle who is sitting on a mix of frizzle and pekin eggs. Initially I thought that bantam eggs took 18 days to hatch but have now read somewhere that it's 21 days. Which is correct? Thanks Sally
joza2210
I have heard 18 for bantams too But i have just hatched a bantam and it is day 21 ... All the breeds i have hatched have been bantams and all took 21 days or a bit over that time Good Luck ...
Redwing
I've been hatching batches of bantams roughly every two weeks since January Only a few have ever arrived before day

Lewis
Day 21 and 22 here too Day 32?! Are they chicken eggs? Good luck
madchickenlady
Sorry for the hijack, but I'll be setting bantam eggs over the weekend. If they take 21 days roughly, do you stop turning on day 18? Because the guide says to stop turning on day 15 for bantams but I don't want to stop turning too early
Lewis
Yep, stop turning on day
lotz2612
Day 32 - now day 33! Yes they are bantam eggs from my own hens. Should I be worried? Think im going to try and candle them tonight and see whats going on. Any advice on Candling?
Jools
I'm here to do my job of disagreeing with everyone else I haven't hatched as much as Redwing, but I have hatched bantam eggs (my own and posted) under broodies for a few years now and I can pretty much rely on them to start hatching on Day 19. I've no idea why people have different experiences, but be ready just in case yours arrive earlier than you expect.
madchickenlady
So would you advise to stop turning on day 15 as per the books?
Jools
I don't know, sorry, I've never used an incubator - well only feather covered ones and they do the turning for themselves.
Redwing
I'm going to be honest and say that I believe stopping the turning of the eggs exactly on the 18th day is overrated - I find that the first chick to hatch crashes the others around anyway Stopping turning too early is more of a problem, perhaps stop turning on day 17 thats not too early
madchickenlady
Thanks Tasha It's so confusing, because practically everywhere I look I'm getting different advice E.g. Some books tell me to let the eggs rest for 24 hours before setting, some say 12. Some say store in a cool place, some say keep at room temperature! I suppose a lot of it is trial and error
