bigmommasally
Has anyone got any good ideas for a Hen Day which is a bit different and doesn't involve Clubbing, Alcohol and Male Strippers etc? It also needs to be cost friendly, probably around £50 per head, which puts most spa days out of the running. The bride (my DD2) loves picnics but we're worried about centering the whole day around a picnic when our weather can be so unpredictable. She is leaving the organisation of it all to my DD1 but at the moment we are finding it hard to come up with good ideas. We have thought of a couple of possibles so far: - Horse Riding with a picnic but for that we need to find somewhere within a couple of hours of Essex that can cope with about 15 of us, many of whom won't have been on a horse before. Not sure if this is feasible? - Cookery lesson - Go Ape But I'm sure there must be loads of things we haven't even thought of doing So over to you my clever resourceful Omleteers
Goldstar
Hi, I am going to a surprise hen party where they are hiring the room above a chinese restaurant, there is going to be lots of games (that's what the invite said) I know they are going to have sing star (karaoke style game). How about Romford dog track? Or childrens play places like Go Bananas (Colchester) and Monkey puzzle (Maldon) hire out for adult parties. Hope this helps. Olly
Karaoke night is a good one. How about a day at the races? Or an evening meeting, there are lots of those in the summer - then you could take the picnic and eat it beforehand, and then go into the racecourse. Something I love doing is pottery painting, there are quite a few places that do this - you choose a piece of unglazed stuff, paint it, and then get it fired - that's probably not quite what you had in mind, but we've done it for a friend's birthday, took wine and nibbles along and it was really good fun. Charlottechicken
I thought this was about hosting a hen party for new omleteers, can't quite see a chicken zorbing

Chucky Mama
You could go racing and book a box but I am not sure how much that would be. Would Sandown be near to you? That is a lovely course. With some courses you can, instead of going into the grandstand watch from the middle of the course with a picnic. Lots of people take a champange picnic and sit in the carpark prior to racing (much nice than it sounds!)and then go into the grandstand or your could treat yourselves and pay a bit more to go into 'Members' Having said all that the hen nights that I have seen at racecourses have been gangs of screeching women rolling drunk wearing stilletos and unappropriate clothing. I always feel embarrased on their behalf.

C&T
If Horse racing is a bit much, then the Dogs can be great fun! Can be very cheap - and bets can be for as little as a pound, races are fast furious and great fun to cheer on "your" dog, that you chose only because you liked the name... We recently did a WaterSports afternoon. Was great fun. We had the use of the boat for a couple of hours, and could use it how we wanted - included banana boat, rubber tyres, some tried water skiing. And then while some where in the water, others were relaxing on shore, grazing their way through a picnic. Only cost us £20 each. And if the weather is bad - well, you are getting wet anyway! quickcluck
you could try Rope Runners by the secret nuclear bunker in brentwood, like Go Ape but cheaper! or Airkix?
Chucky Mama
Canal boat?
Tutti Frutti
What about a medieval banquet in St Katherine's Dock? Been a while since I went so I can't remember how much - but we did the London Eye first and then went in fancy dress
bigmommasally
There are some great ideas there - thanks everyone. I especially like the idea of a canal boat, if I could find one of those to hire where we can stop for a picnic and a bit of pony trekking the day would be perfect! bigmommasally
Thought you'd like an update on DD2's hen party. It was yesterday and was a brilliant day. We went by mini bus to Go Ape at Bedgebury Forest Kent follwed by a picnic and games and silly dressing up in the forest, we then went to Temper Temper in Tunbridge Wells for a chocolate making evening. Go Ape was such good fun and the staff were brilliant. We had got stuck in horrendous traffic jams on the way there and were nearly an hour late arriving, we thought we would have missed our slot as they were fully booked for the day, but the lovely man re jigged things and managed to get us in. We all did the whole course, though I wimped out and took the moderate route instead of the extreme on a couple of occassions. Bedgebury Forest is beautiful, a lovely place for a day out, we had never been there before but definitely want to return to explore it further. Temper Temper chocolate making was really good fun too, I made a chocolate dinosaur chocolate lolly chocolate florentines chocolate ganauche chocolates and a chocolate pot/basket thingy. I was very good though and hardly ate any.
Seagazer
Sounds like you all had a great time. Not sure I'd be any good at the heights but would love to make some chocolate.
Lavenders_Blue
Sounds like a wonderful day, and as for the chocolate making I have just put on 10 pounds reading that!
