AJuff Posted June 29, 2010 Share Posted June 29, 2010 We had a delivery from a courier company at the weekend and had to sign for delivery. The driver stank of alcohol which was very unpleasant. It was just after lunch, could he have had a pint with his lunch? Are delivery drivers allowed a drink at lunch time? I was debating ringing up the company . . . what would you do? It is unethical at best to drink during working hours. He may well have had more than a pint too and been over the legal limit. If he has done nothing wrong then he won't get into trouble. As this guy knows where you live and you'd probably have to give your address when making the complaint, I would be wary of repurcussions. If he stank of alcohol then I'm sure his employer would smell it too and if he does have issues with drink, i wouldn't want him to maybe lose his job and come looking for the person who caused it. A possible way round it and to maintain your privacy would be to speak to the police. You do not have to give your name as you could explain about the repercussions. If the Police are involved and he is drinking and driving, he will lose his license and therefore his job anyway. If his company is worth anything, they will have practices in place for this kind of thing. Most larger companies offer a drink aware scheme, so he could find support without losing his job. Plus he's not doing his health any good. He should appreciate that he has a nice stable job. Please report it, don't think twice!
