I think the healthy eating police have got at Costa

Recommended Posts

I popped into Costa today and asked for my usual large skinny latte - iced. I was told they no longer do large cups for take away cold drinks - these are now only available in small and medium. Huh? The girl went on to say that Costa have stopped doing the drinks in large because there is too much fat and sugar in them! Hmmmm you can still get a large hot chocolate with whipped cream and a flake though!

I then totally confused the staff (this was REALLY easy) by insisting that I would have my large skinny latte in a hot drink cup - and just have it iced. There are not large amounts of fat in this drink and no sugar so no problem. They then all had a discussion as this drink is not on the till. Then they charged me for a medium iced coffee because the till doesn't do large! So I got my coffee cheap because not one of the staff could work out that it's the same price as a HOT latte. Its the same drink just with cold milk and some ice!

I came out of there laughing - I'll be in NYC next month - in August it's 80 degrees in NYC and EVERYONE takes their coffee iced - and as for too much fat and sugar in NYC they have the calorie count of every item they sell right up on the boards in Starbucks. I can just imagine some poor New Yorker accidentally wandering into Costa on a visit to the the UK and having no idea why they can't have a large iced coffee!

lol like it, i don't drink coffee and was quite glad in my recent trip to NYC, way too many choices  they did a lovely shaken iced tea lemonade, then they asked what sort of tea lol i got the hang after about the 4th time but once in rush hour sort of time in the morning the lady had no patience!!

Hahaha, oh dear on their part. I can think of far worse things than that in terms of calorie counting-eg eating 2 pieces of their large slices of cake!

Their staff sound a bit clueless, although that might just be down to the fact that they've probably been dashing around and don't have to remember complicated things. It's almost like when I go there for hot chocolate, you generally have to tell them 2 or 3 times that you don't want it with cream.

Or when you ask for a large (or medium or small) black Americano and they ask "do you want milk or cream with that?"

They seem rather non-plussed when my answer to that is "No thank you"

I noticed this a few weeks ago but didn't realise it was 'cos of calories

Went to Cardiff last weeken, when it was really hot, and all 4 local stores had no ice because the machines were too hot and had to be switched off!

Lets face it if you want the fat and sugar you could buy one of their biccies or cakes or have they stopped that too. I find their coffees too big - a friend had a large one and it was size of a small bucket - she was so shocked she wanted me to help drink it. They also fire questions at you which I find confusing - if I ask for a small white coffee thats what I want not one that does a song and dance routine too
