sadietoo
OK..don't know if this is any help , but I notice from the NCG site that Alan Titchmarsh helped promote the launch of the quiches...something to do with sharing his views and values?? There is a facebook page guys...just a thought!!
migsy
Tutti Fruitti - You have to have a FB account and then you have to look up NCG Food Co and click on "like" and then you can post on their page.
bluekarin
OK..don't know if this is any help , but I notice from the NCG site that Alan Titchmarsh helped promote the launch of the quiches...something to do with sharing his views and values?? There is a facebook page guys...just a thought!! I've just had a look at this. It does say about his principles etc but to do with the picnic hamper you could win, rather than their quiches. Quote below The Alan Titchmarsh brand stands for the principles Alan believes in – an organic approach to outdoor lifestyle, inbuilt quality, integrity and good design. These picnic bags reflect Alan's love of the outdoors and his passion for enjoying the garden. But I guess it all adds up to peoples beliefs in the product, and what they think the ingredients will be. I guess the chicken they use in their soups isn't free range either
WitchHazel
I suspect that what I am going to say might not be popular, so I'll put my tin hat on after saying it... Is everyone who is campaigning here actually a customer of NCG quiche? Or, more importantly, are you all going to guarantee to buy the product, no matter what the increase in price, if NCG do the right thing and switch to free range eggs? Don't get me wrong. I think it's important that companies are made aware of consumer desires to have humanely produced ingredients in their products, and that of course means free range eggs. However, it somehow doesn't feel right to join in this sort of campaign if the change isn't going to affect one's own personal shopping behaviour. If the company changes because they believe their consumers want it, and then it turns out that the people who wanted the change aren't actually consuming the product, that doesn't seem right. I;m not against campaigning if you're going to put your money where your mouth is. I joined in a campaign regarding Helmann's mayonnaise, and I switched to using their Mayo because they now use FR eggs (even though it isn't actually my favourite mayonnaise) and I wrote and told them that the change resulted in my buying their mayo. Comversely, I stopped eating at Nando's when they confirmed they didn't use FR chicken, and I wrote and told them that was why. So it's not that I disagree in principle with the campaign.... it's just...it's just.... oh, I don't know. Something doesn't feel right. bluekarin
Witchhazel - I am not a customer of NCG, so I haven't joined in with posting things on Facebook or emailing them. But I do think, from the image the company is portraying, it is slightly deceptive. In that they are all about the fresh and the organic so you'd think they'd automatically be up on the animal welfare side as well. That said, if they were to go free range then I would more than likely buy one of their products. However, for some reason, I don't really buy quiche, even though we all like it
The Dogmother
I have had their soups before now, and really like them; I shan't be buying any more of their products, nor trying the quiches until they sort out the free range issue. jess1merlin
Whichazel - I am a customer and do use their soups quite a lot during the winter, I have also tried their quiche but won't be using any of their products until they change to free range. Shame really as I really do like their soups.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Hazel, it was a 'personal' email to you. Direct communication between you and NCG. Intended for you to read. Do I have to type 'for personal use only. Must not be copied, quoted, or used without my express permission' under everything I write now? Having studied a bit of IT and Data Protection law, I have never come across anything about not quoting from emails or any form of correspondence, UNLESS both parties have entered a confidentiality contract. Quote away! We have very politely asked all involved not to quote, A chickychickychick-ENN. This has been discussed at length and a decision was reached to not allow it on this forum. Thank you. Just to qualify, this is an Omlet rule and not actually The Law of The Land, yes?
Chucky Mama
A chickychickychick-ENN, Christian is away at the moment I think. Maybe you could have this discussion with him when he gets back so that this topic does not get hijacked.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
Not meaning to hijack Chuckymama. It's just that you know how normally Omleteers are so up on every subject going, I'm just wanting to clarify the issue so we are all properly informed and not passing incorrect legal info round the real world if it's just a forum decision. Now - who has some awesome quiche recipes while everyone's avoiding buying these ones?
bluekarin
Now - who has some awesome quiche recipes while everyone's avoiding buying these ones? My mum used to make a mean bacon and onion one I don't think she used a recipe, just sort of 'knew' what to put in.
A chickychickychick-ENN!!
I had a mad French one the other day - quiche casing, spread with that pale brown French mustard, then sweet tomato slices on top. Hadn't expected the mustard rush - but it was very popular with some folk. Actually, it probably didn't have egg in it at all, come to think, but was an education in quicheage! migsy
Well done to us! This is what NCG has just posted on their Facebook page: "Thank you to everyone who has expressed concern over the use of barn eggs in our new quiches. Here at New Covent Garden we are committed to using only the best natural ingredients, but we realise in this instance that we let our standards slip. It was a mistake to use barn eggs in our quiches and for that we apologise. We value our customers' opinions and have been listening to your concerns. That's why, with immediate effect, we will be using only free-range eggs in all of our New Covent Garden products. ...We would like to thank you for helping us to improve our product range and hope that you will continue to enjoy our range of fresh soups and quiches." WitchHazel
Well done. I can see I'll have to start buying NCG stuff now. Have you let the BHWT know about this? They used to maintain a list of hen friendly places to eat, and they might be able to give a bit of publicity to NCG about this.
