Went for six but came away with seven ....

Recommended Posts

I am a proud and very excited chicken mummy at last! Having spent months preparing and all last weekend doing last minute touches to the girls' quarters ( a converted stable) I went to pick them up this evening. I went to Garden Hens in Cheshire - a small operation run by a lovely lady who breeds seven different large pure breeds, along with crested Black Polands and some brown hybrids. I wanted six different breeds but couldn't decide which one to leave out! SO.....I now have a Buff Orpington, a Lavender Araucana, a Silver laced Wyandotte, a Double-laced Barnevelder, a Welsummer,a Speckled Sussex and a Vorwerk! Well - which one would you reject? They are 16 weeks old and are all now tucked up in bed for the night. I just cant wait to see them in the morning - its all I can do to stop myself going down and having a peep now!

Lovely collection of girls. I must have a lot of self restaint as when I got my two new girls light sussex and a welsummer I did only get what I went for. The person selling them also had Black Rocks, Speckeldys, Pekins and others I was very tempted, I think it was more to do with no space for more than two [at the moment] that stopped me.
