My New WIR is finished!!! lots of photos as promised!!

Recommended Posts

Well its been a while but after much research and viewing the other runs on here I have made my own WIR :D

Made from 900mm wide panels screwed together.

Run measures 4500mm x 2500mm and will initially house 4 Hens which are being picked up in early August.

I hope the photos work, I have included the link to photobucket as theres about 60 photos!! I am missing some early construction photos which had been taken on my iphone which I then lost when I upgraded to the new operating system

Its been a real labour of love and I've loved making it!

Thanks to those whose ideas I've made use of too.

Wow - that was a lot of work! I'm very envious of your two greenhouses, but moving them must have been hard enough on its own. Your run looks fabulous - and it's helped me already, because my guttering flows into a waaterbutt, but when it's full the downpipe just discharges against the side of the run, I've been wondering what I could do as it's going to make it rot if I leave it like that.

A fabulous run, well done.

With regard to the water butt, I have connected one currently but I have a second one exactly the same which I will link so when the first is full it starts filling the second, when that one is full, I will have an overflow from the second which will take the water away from the run again.

Thanks for the comments. Next project is a raised decking area!

Thanks for the comments,

I'm no carpenter ( a fireman actually ) but only standard DIY skill level, no other training! My sons playhouse in the set of photos was also built from scratch straight from my head as I went along.

The whole run was made from scratch by me, the only kit I bought was the actual cube!

I got given most of the panel wood free, got the roof sheets for a huge discount as they were seconds.

There's been a lot of problem solving to do in the design but that's where this forum has helped.

(Olly, I actually have 3 greenhouses, 2 grow tomatoes and one chillis and cucumbers in all 3)

We are getting 4 Black Rhode hybrid hens to start with, and then later once we get the hang of it, we might get a couple of different ones, see how it goes.

I was told that the Black Rhodes can be good for a beginner as my wife is a bit nervy about looking after them when I'm not here!

It was a long process just to get "permission" to start on the run and buy the cube!

THREE greenhouses :drool::mrgreen:

You will soon 'get the hang of it', and your wife will lose her nerves and be as besotted with them as you are, I guarantee it - chickens are really, really easy to look after and there's loads of advice on here. They are going to be spoiled rotten with that run, mine had to wait years before I took the plunge for a WIR.
